von*ferret Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 Lord of War I thought it had a great moral that really left a mark without beating it into you with a bloody stick. It wasn't sublte, but it was done so well I didn't mind them basicaly telling it to you. Acting was awesome I thought, showed a lot of pictures. I really got a kick out of seeing the Soviet Union shots cause it really felt cold and military and... crumbled. I'm not a great movie critique, but I just have to say I loved it. Quote
Tequila Posted September 18, 2005 Report Posted September 18, 2005 Looking forward to seeing this. Normally not a fan of Nic. Cage, but this has all the hallmarks of an enjoyable film. Quote
Mazy Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 Yup, heard good things about it~ Quote
Kosmo Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 First I tought that LoW was another touchy feely picture like 'The Weather Man' but then I saw the trailer and was positively suprised, didn't think any Nic's movies other than Ghost Rider would interest me, but I'm thinking about seeing the movie. Nic's career has been medicore at best, bad movie after another so every time I hear he is doing a movie, I'm just confident that it's not even mildly interesting or entertaining. Quote
Skjalg Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 he played in the rock. Skjalgified as the best movie. ever. Quote
Kosmo Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 he played in the rock. Skjalgified as the best movie. ever. And that was mostly because it had Sir Thomas Sean Connery of Edinburgh, one of the most talented and greatest actors of our time. Quote
Jezpuh Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 I dunno, the trailer made it seem like a movie that doesn't really take itself seriously. Quote
TomWithTheWeather Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 It's getting mediocre-poor reviews from what I hear. Quote
Alf-Life Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 I still wanna see it, though. Quote
von*ferret Posted September 19, 2005 Author Report Posted September 19, 2005 if anyone can tell me if he ends up with HIV, i'd apperciate it Quote
Izuno Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 I saw it last night. Pretty good. It felt like a black comedy...but it also was a sick commentary...but it was also a "Good Fellas" of gun running (sort of). While I personally enjoyed the movie very much, it is a bit hard to classify. That may take some people by surprise because it operates on a few different levels and that may not be what people expect out of it. Otherwise, I found the movie interesting simply because it attempts to explain, in a historical context, how gun running works. I love movies where the main character has voice over telling his story in the overall world he is in. (Like Casino, Good Fellas, Rounders or even Fight Club). Sure, this movie has a different vibe than all of them, but again I liked it just from the way he talked you through gun running. Still thinking about it and I would probably like to see it again.
