von*ferret Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 Anyone know how to specificaly reconfigure the 3dsmax's grid so that it is the same as Valve Hammer Editor's units (specificaly unitsx8). I know how to configure the grid, but not how to make it match valve. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted September 13, 2005 Report Posted September 13, 2005 I usually just import a dxf file and set the homegrid to 0.16 or something like that (0.32 , 2 , 4, 8, 16 etc). Dunno which one is the hammer one though import a 1 unit brush and report back i'd say Quote
von*ferret Posted September 14, 2005 Author Report Posted September 14, 2005 Ok I found that the standard grid sizes in 3dsmax are the same as vhe. So you simply have to change the home grid spacing to 8 or what ever you want. I'd suggest 8 to keep things clean. Quote
Acumen Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 i think pericolosososos covered it pretty much in his nice tutorial http://www.mapcore.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2926 but you figured it out on your own, anyways Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 its a model. Doesn't mean the base dimensions shouldn't fit on a nice grid or have a reasonably placed origin. Especially given HL2's poor editor implementation of models, you need all the alignment help you can get Quote
Evert Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 Alltho max mess up the size when exporting slightly, the units aren't precise. Here we have a snap option when exporting. The exporter makes the model slightly bigger, and then it has a snap option, on how large distances it should snap back to get the real size. Quote
von*ferret Posted September 14, 2005 Author Report Posted September 14, 2005 any good news? lol there goes the hope ot make something clean and modular. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 what are you talking about evert, you can perfectly make models that line up seamlessly with brushwork Quote
Defrag Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 It's still a pain in the arse to position models :/ Quote
insta Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 It's still a pain in the arse to position models :/ Drag the model into place using the same procedure as resizing a brush. It will move the model in smaller increments, which works pretty well. Quote
von*ferret Posted September 14, 2005 Author Report Posted September 14, 2005 Yeah but getting things _precise_ on the grid is gonna suck if they resize the model at all Quote
Evert Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 Peris, how come every model be off by 0.1 unit or something? Make a wall 256 x 256 in max, and then try and fit it in hammer, you will see glitches I'm pretty sure. Atleast that's what always happens when I export, and why they made our exporter with that snap-option. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 hmm maybe your 3dsmax is broken? I made alot of modular parts for rounded streetcurbs and stuff and they all line up perfectly. I would show you a pic but im at work right now Quote
Evert Posted September 15, 2005 Report Posted September 15, 2005 in max 7? Strange, I have read about it happening, here at work it's fucked and my max at home too. Quote
