Valve Half-life 1&2

ElectronicArts Underground 2 & Battlefield 1&2

Codemasters Operation Flash point!

Atari Unreal Tournament 2k4 & 2k7

Did atari made ut?

Sope, Atari didn't make any of the Unreal series games, and UT2k7 will be published by Epics new publisher, Midway. And EA didn't make BF games.

And BIS made Operation Flashpoint, Codemasters only published it.

Sorry to destroy your list csharp. :/

Its easier for me to say some developers as persons...

Will Wright, for my always loved Sim City series, which never has been dull and always been better with the next version and expansionset. I actually played Sim City 2000 about ~3 months ago when I had nothing to do, I have a windows version that works really great under XP, although a bit fast ;)

Sid Meier, I can never forgett how much fun I've had with Civ, this is also a series where no sequel has made anything worse, just in the long term better and more fun.

http://www.igrograd.com.ua/images/civilization/Civ2.jpg (Looked much better when I had it, since I played on a 8-bit colored System 7.5.1, not a 4-bit DOS)

New World Computing, as with the Sim and Civ series, Might and Magic, espec Heroes of Might and Magic 2, and later Might and Magic 7 really made me love that company. Heroes 2 was with Sim C 2000 and Civ 1 the game that made me like PC games.

John Romero, for giving me various Quake/Doom stuff and the Daikatana. I, compared to maybe all of you (if there really is anyone that can honestly say they played the game) thinks this is the best Singleplayer FPS ever made, more enjoyable than Half-Life and MUCH MUCH more than Half-Life 2.

Nintendo, for giving me Zelda III, Mario 1 2 3 4, the NES and SNES, which I consider to be the two best console systems ever made, cause of the games, and a time where console and pc-industry were sell outs to each others. A PC game you played on PC and a console game you played on console, which were either SEGA 16 or NES/SNES... shitty ports in either direction were rare.

So why not Epic, Id, Blizzard, Westwood, Valve? Well, to be honest:

Blizzard, I loved Warcraft II (the best RTS ever made?), I loved StarCraft, maybe even more (so is this the best then?!) BUT, WarCraft III felt like a setback, and I never even played the expansionset, the only WarCraft III we've seen on LANs is mostly Custom maps where you build towers in mazes and stuff like that, fun for like ~1H, maybe. I played in all WoW betas, I enjoyed it ALOT, but when I hit retail, and could play a char to the max, I noted when I hit L53 that the game sucks, and is utterly repeating and that all lands you visit at that level is dark and degenerate, that sucked. My char did some awsome PVP-damage and was also pretty!

If Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2 (if the later ever is announced) dosen't deliver as good as thier prequels or better, blizzard has failed, and maybe its cause they lost thier good crew when VUG bought them.

Id did the one of the best FPS ever with Quake, espec in MP, I can't count the number of hours (I'm sure we played CS and TFC more though) we played Quake, either Threewave or Team Fortress (yea, the real deal), the problem was that I didn't like Quake 2 that much, I loved Quake III very much, its also one of the best MP-FPS ever made. I hated Doom III, and I can no longer say that I count on ID themselves to give me a great game, both Quake Wars and Quake 4 is mainly being developed by other houses, so even If quake 4 is great (which it probably won't be in SP atleast) I can't give iD creds for that, I'll give raven full cred for that, they has already given me great games as Jedi Knight and Soldier of Fortune.

Epic, loved Unreal VERY good and nice atmosphere and music in this game, almost sad thinking back on it, Unreal Tournament, is probably slighly better than Q3, mostly cause its more free on environments and has most of the best tracks ever made for any game, all platforms, old UT can easily fit in the term "COOL". Too bad that Unreal II (key developer Legend though) and Unreal 2003 didn't deliver, Unreal II was not near the gameplay and atmospheric Quality of Unreal, and Unreal 2003 lacked alot of things and felt overall slow. Unreal 2004 is GREAT however, almost the same gfx but much more polished with alot more functions. I hope Unreal 2007 is good, atleast the Unreal 3 Tech is!

Westwood has probably only made good games, Tiberian Dawn was to pair with WarCraft II, that is VERY good, espec in SP mode, great movies, music and graphics, Red Alert was great too, Red Alert 2 was not as great as the former, still a good game, Renegade was LAN-Ownage when you were a buch of peeps, felt like a future Battlefield! I can't place Westwood high on a list though, since they made so few games I played and, well, they are no more, and this is mainly because thier games didn't sell too good.

Valve, hmm... Half-Life rocked, very fun, very cool, we all loved to shoot marines, it felt somehow unique back then, the cool BlackOps that were just so annoying but a cool enemy. Half-Life DM was VERy fun also, and I mean FUN, it was not as competetive as QW/Threwave, and more realistic maps, which also felt fresh back then. TFC was very good, the best TF-spawn ever, CS, which I played since it hit the first public beta (we are very few that played the game when It came, seems 90% of the CS players started with beta 5 or 7 or something, and they say, Beta 5.3 "was the best", they don't know what they are talking about, those little Noobs). Man we played that game on LANs, it felt even more realistic than HL, and gave us some insainly fun maps, like the sweden made Mansion, mm, great map, I can see how they had to remove the map, still, it was probably the most fun map ever made to CS.

I can go on and on how fun we have had with CS, TFC, Darkmatch, The Specialist, but since Half-Life 2, somethings came that I did not like, Half-Life 2, the game, was not as fun as the first, felt somehow more aimed at showing of physics and graphics than focus on fun gameplay, the end game of Half-Life 2, SUCKS, SO MUCH. Its almost as boring as Doom 3. And all that combine shit everywhere, where did my fun US Marines go :( Also, why the hell did Valve tie the editor to Steam, what are they, gay? Sorry but those two things brings down Valve for me, a good bit. If I could sort Half-Life 2 away from Valve, then they would be at a NO-5 list for sure.

Joker: Dice, Battlefield 1945 was FUN, like with HLDM, it was "FUN" to play, we sometimes took jeeps and raced on the larger maps like a desert race, man was that fun when you umped into someone and saw how they flew of a cliff, and the char still sat by the wheel. ALso, has some great 10vs10 LAN games here, we played for hours on the same map, that is what I call even teams and every one is happy when someone wins a fair fight and everyone can go and eat afterwards! To bad Vietnam and 2 isnt as fun, Vietnam actually sucked.

Capcom is also a good because of Street Figher 2 and MegaMan, but also, those series isn't as good as they used to be.

I could probably write for hours, but I'm tired as hell, and that is also why my grammar and spelling isn't the best in this post!

Would have included Blizzard, but the talent and genius that went into creating Starcraft, Diablo, Warcraft, and WOW has primarily left.

Oh and keep a watchful eye on Turtle Rock!

What I know of, only the Bliz North designers who developed Diablo games have left, the guys who are responsible for the craft series are verymuch in the house (the original founders), and guys like Chris Metzen who is primarily responsible of the look and feel of the Warcraft universe is intact.

Valve for HL1, HL2 and mod support.

Blizzard for Starcraft and WoW

ID for Doom and Quake series

Epic for Unreal 1... I loved the graphics back then (the shiny, reflecting floor of the castle in the intro  )

Microprose (Geoff Grammond) for the Grand Prix Series, specially GP2... man I loved that game, imo no other racing simulation (F1) has beaten GP2. I also liked Indy Car Racing (2?)... but that was on my 486.

Nintentendo for the Zelda and Mario Bros Series and other games... I had the best time of my life when I was a kid and I couldn't even understand english when playing Zelda (SNES):D

What can I say I'm a FPS lover :P and Blizzard learned me to appreciate other genres.

Yea, great scene that, real time mirrors and reflections, to bad alot of games dosen't use this more, atleast in single player. Took a fresh screen for your enjoyment, with todays 16AF, 8AA and 1600x1200

Orgasmatic :o

I didn't remember that it looked that good.

If that architecture was build on Source, it wouldn't look much better now.

It still looks better then alot of retail games coming out right now in 2005, half of them still can't handle shiny floors lol.

Yea, true. The Unreal engine truly was amazing back then, still, that game sports better graphics, as you said, than some newer games. And, for a source version, I've made a old HL version when I was learning making Half-Life levels (I remember how the Unreal textures looked bad In HL compared to Unreal, and that I couldent implant Fog and moving skies), but to be honest, I think the Q3E or D3E fits that style better, you can do more with shaders and graphical effects in those engines, somehow, I feel that Source is a bit limited when it comes down to Unreal-ish kinda design...
