some game called "cats' i think. It was tandy colored and you had to capture mice in some alley. If you touched the ground a dog came and completely mauled you.

after that it was secret agent mission, jill of the jungle, crystal caves etc etc etc.

Duke Nukem 3d is what got me into level design :) when i was 11.

EDIT: how the hell could i forget the first duke nukem games :0!! I played those more than any other game ever i think

hah the first duke nukem games pwned :D

I liked the gun u could fire to the ground and it made you fly.

Yea, playing Super Mario for the NES is the first game I remember playing as well, it just went on from there I guess. That funny soccer game for the NES and a lot of other games. Commander Keen, "Kniffel" and that game with the gorillas throwing bananas at each other in this city level were the first PC games I guess. "Fußball Bundesliga Manager" (soccer manager sim), "Sim City 2000" ahh the memories...

Tons of SNES and N64 games, lots of PC games, Half-Life got me hooked up on PC multiplayer as well as editing.

Although I played around with Stunt, Warcraft and C&C map editors before :D

Sorry got carried away, err, Super Mario, yea definately.

For console games it had to be when I went round my friend's house and he had a NES with Mario and Duck Hunt. Duck Hunt was good but Mario... oh my. I pestered my dad into getting me a NES, and instead he got me a SNES for Christmas (with Mario World). At first I thought the 'Super NES' was some cheap knock-off :-D but Mario World was awesome. My console gaming basically went from there to the N64 and then to like all next-gen consoles.

For PC gaming, I used to get a lot of games from my cousins as their dad was into gaming. However, I remember the first PC we got was an Amstrad 286 with Prince of Persia and F-15 Strike Eagle.

Also had some good ol' times when my cousins brought round all these shareware games their dad got from the cover CD of a mag called 'Computer Shopper'. There was Commander Keen... all those knock offs like Jill of the Jungle, Jazz Jackrabbit and Halloween Harry.

Wolf3d was my first FPS, but I basically skipped over Doom (tho I did play the shareware) since it never really interested me.

And YES... I remember Alleycat! I thought I was the only one in the world who'd ever played that game. :P

We used to take turns seeing how many times we could jump over that dog in the hub bit, he was scary as feck. My brother got pretty good and eventually was able to jump him 100% of the time. Although sometimes thrown bottles'd get him. :P

Great thread, btw.

Haha, its good to see so many people with an appreciation of Alleycats, that game is awesome.

Anyway, I have a hard time remembering and totally defining what probably fueled this never ending fire of gaming madness that I am today, but games like Sonic 1 for the Megadrive and alot of other Megadrive games. Civilization 1, Dune 2, Prince of Persia, Wolfenstein 3d, Populous and Monkey Island, plus all the Apogree classics for the PC, plus some Amiga games even earlier.

Its just that the start of my gaming life seems like a blur today, so many games and so many impressions :)
