teeluu
Spellbinder encouraged me to create a thread from this so.. i did. Even it's a simple question. I'm learning to model lowpoly objects and i was thinking if anyone uses editable poly for modeling characters. I mean at all, or do you use editable mesh or something else for that? I don't even know if it makes any kinda sense to model characters with editable poly. Tell meeh
Kedhrin
I used Edith Mesh for 4 years, then someone told me about Editable Poly and my life was much easier. editable poly is def. the best route to take, you have WAY more controls, etc.
teeluu
Ok, great that my post made sense. So i'll be fine with edit poly, at least for now. Thanks Of course someone who still uses edit mesh can tell if there's something mentionable benefits with it
von*ferret
Edit poly is just newer, easier controls, more "ergodynamic." My life also was made much easier with edit poly. Good luck!
Blunkka
I find poly easier to handle with and to set the mesh to correspond a game situation you could always turn it editable mesh after modelling it in poly. Atleast in max
NRG
I use edit poly with a passion (ok. not really a passion, but you get the idea).. anyway... they both *think* very differently.. the technology is not the same. The good thing about edit poly is that you can delete edges and verts without destroying your mesh using the backspace key.. not the delete key (and you can for the most part move vertices around and not mess up your uv mapping with preserve UVs enabled. Editable poly also has great features such as connect (when you can select two edges for example, and subdivide them evenly by the x amount you set in the connect spinner). Also, the bridge command is very sweet. I do find the need to jump back and forth between edit poly and edit mesh however.. Edit poly does not allow turning visible edges (only invisible edges are turnable in poly).. so in a case like this, I just quickly jump to my edit mesh to turn the visible (solid lined) edge, then I just right back into poly.. Also, in poly, you cannot make invisible edges visible.. this task (without any script) also makes me go into edit mesh temporarily...But if I had to only use one of them.. I'd definately say editable poly.. Cheers, NRG

Zacker
I always use edit poly, but I am not really sure of the differences between it and edit mesh.

Kedhrin
edit poly has a lot more controls that let you model/map a lot easier... if VHE had the tools edit poly had, wow, just wow.
