Lee3dee Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Unreal engine 3 looks amazing, Quake4 using modified doom3 engine looks amazing, and now from out of no where comes an engine that also looks amazing, using a 3 man team. http://www.projectoffset.com/technology.html Quote
Algor Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Looks on par with Unreal Engine 3, the toolset even has very similar features. Very nice, none the less.. didn't know it was by three peopel Quote
Phlek Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 It seems you missed this thread: http://mapcore.net/forums/viewtopic.php ... ect+offset But yes, this looks absolutely amazing considering it's a 3 man team. Quote
kleinluka Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 i believe this is more a question of artistic skill rather than tech Quote
Section_Ei8ht Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 i'm just glad someone finally put motion blur in their engine. I'm very curious as to how resource expensive that is to render. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 its amazing we can have realtime sub surface scattering nowadays Quote
Kosmo Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I agree with kleiney, three man team, with only one man developing the engine, which means that the engine itself is a one man job, or the two artists do some heavy duty coding too. And this could be just a rendering engine, not a whole game engine like UE3 is, I'm not a programmer, so I don't know how easy it is to do a rendering engine, but that stuff is absolutely impressive. Just have to add, these guys have been making Savage, one of the best games I have ever played, it was totally awesome. Quote
von*ferret Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I have to be honest and say I didn't read the previous posts, so excuse any redundancy. I am excited for project offsett. I want to get that out first. However I am more warry of a couple of things. 1.) it is a built by a couple of people. So that means who KNOWS how long it'll take to get running. 2.) There is no mention to computer specs, just what the engine is capable of achieving. So 5 years down the line the average person can possibly use it. Example kinda is halflife 1. It was never meant to achieve things that some mods pushed for it to do. It was CAPABLE of doing them, but...god damn rants. hold on.. right hlaflife1. Made with possibilities but it was finaly released knowing that it shit I cna't think. 3.) these are ingame demo's of the engine. They're touched up with some program (premiere?). These are product demo reals. Just like developers hiring applicacee's (word?). People make their demo look nice to hide their faults. Just cause it looks shiny doesn't mean it wont break. My friend got lured into a closet with a shiny object to make out with some guy, she's not the brightests, knor do I have any diea waht that has to dow tih anything. Quote

InsaneSingingBlender Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 its amazing we can have realtime sub surface scattering nowadays whats sub surface scattering? Quote
Pericolos0 Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 its a shader technique used to creqte more realistic organic materials like human skin. hold a flashlight bihd your hand and notice how the light scatters under your skin, making the edges of your fingers glow reddish. Thats what sub surface scattering does. I believe the new geforce7800 demo shows this. so basically its light going through your skin, making stuff look soft and organic Quote
Kosmo Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce_7800.html There is a demo about subsurface scattering there, nice stuff, and makes everything seem much more lifelike. Quote
