Low poly railing stand for a Q4 SP thing I'm doing in my spare time... will eventually go back and hi-poly it up but for now just wanted to try out the shape.

looks sexy kfs, you going to unwrap that and paint things on or use a generic texture and have it just repeat over the mesh?

I'm planning on a unique texture for it... we'll see how the normal map process goes and if I can hack together anything or find someone to do it for me.

what part? unwrapping it and baking the normal map? As long as nothing is overlapping on the unwrap you shouldn't have a problem baking the highpoly. At least as far as I know in max.
