penE Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 mh, is it the style of the texture?, or the type of wagon? Now I'm not sure anymore too . I was told that the bogies had to be kinda boxy and that you can't look through them at any point for gameplay. But yeah, I guess it's too much, could try to break it up a bit more while keeping the silhouette. Quote
Vilham Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 Yeah thought it was for gameplay reasons, would it not be better for the level designer to block up the bottom of the tracks where the wheels are with some debris or something. And for me the geo at the top of the cart is fine, its the texture that stands out. Quote
BaRRaKID Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 The wagons look nice. The way I see it they don't fit the map just because the map is not that good visually. Quote
Radu Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Valve should put more work into their art assets. Your wagons put everything else on that map to shame. Quote
Rick_D Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 their art assets are 9 years old. Quote
BaRRaKID Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Valve should put more work into their art assets. Your wagons put everything else on that map to shame. To be fair, Valves official version of the map looks much better than this. The version shown on the screenshots is a community made version that, from what I understand, was made to look as close as possible as the version from cs 1.6 Quote
penE Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Visually it's pretty much the same as the official one, apart from the wagons and some small changes here and there: Quote
blackdog Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 Been working on a bunch of train models. They are for an improved version of de_train that's quite popular on the workshop, made by Volcano.Very pretty train cars. Except for those blocky bogies they requested... pro-gamers are such winers: map is set in a train depot, everybody knows it, so it's fair and you should be able to see, shoot and throw nades below the cars, between the wheels etc. Why don't they change it completely, call it de_crates and put crates in place of train cars so they are happy.Sorry for my digression, but these things really get to me. kab Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 (edited) Last time I posted on these forums I was touching 3D software for the first time. It's been years and I learned a lot. Had an idea for some sci-fi stuff the other day and tried to draw a little concept. Here's some of what it resulted in(yes it's a pillar). Going for a VERY clean style. Model is 342 tris, and I made two different texture sets to break things up when it goes into a level some time in the future.(All 3 are the same model, just to show different angles) Edited September 4, 2013 by kab Thrik 1 Quote
penE Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 Played around with the textures some more and added a bit more visual noise to them. I think they look more ground into the environment now , but I'm not sure: selmitto, mjens, Beck and 3 others 6 Quote
Radu Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 They look great and fit pretty well. I wouldn't worry about it too much. It would be amazing if you guys improved the level's textures as well. Quote
Squad Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 @ penE: Looking a lot better, imo. About the bogies, you don't actually see any wheels, which makes it look weird. I understand they're meant to be blocky because of gameplay reasons, but it would look a lot better if the wheels are visible. I don't know what references you used, but a quick google search didn't show something similar to what you got now. Here's a reference of an alternative which doesn't allow to see/shoot through it and looks less blocky. Not sure if it's useful as for players to be able to crouch under the wagons the bogies probably need to be higher than the ones in the reference photo. Quote
Vilham Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 Yeah definitely feel more grounded now. Bottom section maybe a little too clean though. Quote
FMPONE Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 Hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooly shit that looks nice Quote
