Defrag Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 You're a modelling machine these days defrag - what game dev disciplines are there left for you to get good at?! When you gonna start applying for jobs anyways, you've surely handed in the last of your uni stuff some time ago? Thanks My modelling skills are OK but I need to practice more to get the speed up (and maybe do some stuff that isn't based on RL objects so I have to wing it a bit more). I can't texture for shit, so I suppose that is next on the list. As for uni -- I'm finished and it looks like I'll be getting a first class degree (unless they screw me with some esoteric marking system, but I'm told there are no quotas etc.) How/When did you find out what your degree classification was? I've got all my module results but there's no classification showing up in OASIS etc. I've already started applying to companies. My first application to a local company was ignored. I sent an email asking if they got it. They ignored that, too. Off to a good start, then. R_Yell: Nice gun! Quote
ReNo Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 I don't recall when I found out, but it was obvious from my grades that I was going for a 2:1. I'd secured my position with Outerlight before finishing uni and since it was fairly obvious what grade was coming my way I wasn't all that excited to find out really! Obviously if you're going for first you're slightly more eager though, especially when making job applications I don't think I had to wait too long, though I don't remember if it was put up somewhere on OASIS or we had to wait for something through the post. As for the first unsuccessful job application? Their loss What positions are you looking to go for; more programming or more design? I'll put in a good word for you at Outerlight if you're interested; I can't promise we're hiring right at the minute though I've a feeling we might be soon. Quote
Defrag Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 My preference is probably more towards level design, but my interest varies from job to job. I'm going to try and get a local job for a couple of years (build up a bit of cash because the property market is crazy), but if I can't do that then I'd definitely send an application to Outerlight and try to get in there. I'll send you a message when I sort out what I'm doing -- cheers. Quote

fonfa Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 What the heck is that jonM ?? dude i freaked out when i saw that. looks like female genitalia to me, but as much as i like them, this thing is rather disturbing to look at Quote
Metal-la-la-la Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 i agree, there's something sexual in this sacry thing Quote
ReNo Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 Judging by earlier stuff JonM has shown, I think we can assume it is related to what you think it is Quote
Skjalg Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 I'm glad you felt the vaginal quality about it. and I lol'ed and the butt smacking machine comment.. freaking brilliant. But anyways its a sculpture based on the Egyptian goddess Tawaret, who was depicted as a hippo, she stood for protection, especially for newborns. Protection seems to be always related to the womb, so I wanted to create something that has that feeling. All I got was the feeling of the dentist' office Quote
Vinny Testaverde Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 your right, the idea is that this god is for our modern times, so medical technology is our protection now, the Egyptians used amulets, we use hospitals, thats what I was trying to get at. I'm glad everybody sees it. Quote
Zyn Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 Got any tutorials about HDRI rendering in max? Plugin : http://www.highend3d.com/maya/downloads ... -3737.html , quick and easy way to get natural light without having to set up an entire lightscene. Quote

Vinny Testaverde Posted June 17, 2007 Report Posted June 17, 2007 add a skylight in your scene, choose bitmap as your map, choose the hdri file, choose mentalray as your render, make sure to turn Final Gather on, and thats it pretty much. Quote
