Kosmo Posted August 28, 2005 Author Report Posted August 28, 2005 The detail props going through brushes, overbended roofs and the missing texture alignment on the wall in the back are all annoying to look at:/ And everything you just described are mappers mistakes that has nothing to do with the overall quality of the mod itself. Not everything. The bendy roofs are fucking awesome since not every roof has to be perfectly flat and straight. Quote
von*ferret Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I fucking jizz when I see roofs that sag. That shows that the mapper cares about the ambience, and thats just swag. Quote
skdr Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 There is a video interview with Gabe Newell about next gen and Steam and stuff like that. It also shows few seconds of DoD: Source gameplay. Ironsights and rifle grenades, check it out: http://valve.1up.com/flat/Themeweek/Valve/video5.html DoD: Source clip starts at 07:15. I think that's awesome Quote
Izuno Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 see all the DoD mappers from the past come out to defend sagging roofs because in original DoD on HL engine it just wasn't practical do that. Displacement maps makes it easier and less taxing on the engine. Now if only the character models' pants would sag. Quote
Kosmo Posted September 2, 2005 Author Report Posted September 2, 2005 The bottomless well of knowledge known as Izuno intrigues me, how in the gods name you know all this? Quote
mikezilla Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 sept that the roofs aren't displacement mapped. Quote
Izuno Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 sept that the roofs aren't displacement mapped. ok..well some roofs have been made with displacement maps...at least in the custom dod:s mapping projects i've seen (all unofficial). But whatever, it's a new engine, you can get more detail. So people at Valve got sag happy. good times. The bottomless well of knowledge known as Izuno intrigues me, how in the gods name you know all this? well obviously I didn't know that the roofs in the pictures were not displacement maps. though I wonder if some components or roofs are displacement maps. muhahahahahaha. Anyway...back on topic. I can't wait to play it. Quote
D3ads Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Looking pretty good, they need to work on the nazi's body skin a bit though Quote

Stuff like the slick-combed hair and the Ace-insignia helmet is all the touches I could hope for. Quote
