hessi Posted September 1, 2005 Author Report Posted September 1, 2005 thank you. i am currently working on some parts of the churchs backyard. an other big tower, a garden and the roofs of the whole construct. Using Maya gives a lot of options to create an individual look. gotta get away from this blocky Hammer design to a more dynamic and varieing geometry. lighting of models is a problem that keeps me busy. i should write an article on this when i am done with this project. hessi Posted September 2, 2005 Author Report Posted September 2, 2005 Here is a work in progress picture. as you can see i am building a second tower which need more details. (stairs inside and a big bell). on the left and right on the tops you can see, that these regions are just emtpy and need some more details such as a second floor. the _garden_ needs a more varieing nature. there is only grass, ivy, the same bush and those cypresses. i will work on it this weekend. -Stratesiz- Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 From a modeling perspective it looks spectacular. The greenery is extraordinarily great. However the screenshots so far are not very strong on the gameplay side. Are there more open areas, multileveled action? Quote
Fullauto Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Hmmm, methinks you need more stone showing through the ivy - the balance is too far in the green at the moment. Quote
Meotwister Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 one question, how do you make those statues you always have. you have a skin on that and I was just wondering how you went about making it look that nice. I have a pretty good yet vague general idea. Quote
General Vivi Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 nice work hessi and yes how did you do that statue its very nice looking. Quote
hessi Posted September 2, 2005 Author Report Posted September 2, 2005 i've got a imagelibrary with over 8 GBs of personal highres images of diffenrent sets. tropical plants, european cities, nature images, materials, inspiration stuff .... so i made some pictures of statues on an old graveyard. I used them as modelling and texturereference. nothing big. there is no "trick". Quote
General Vivi Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 well it is very nice. i have a small collection of photos my self but i don't have any awsome stuff around where i live. Quote
2d-chris Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 oh lewks nice there, but make sure you add some height into the enviroment, some nice stairs going to a lower garden or a mill would be super kewl. Play with heights, a flat level is a boring one. Quote
Meotwister Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 hah vivi I'd hardly call them hi-res though. didnt think there was a 'trick' but was just thinking about it, simple texture art is what I thought you did. nice nice work. Quote
RA7 Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 Like the new pic, but i want more :-) Quote
von*ferret Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 Hey, 'wow' is what comes to mind when I look at this map. Hessi you always do nice stuff, such as de_mediterraneo(?), which it seems this map will be just as amazing. I know criticism is a good thing etc. but everyone should keep in mind this is a wip forum and not keep on reiterating the same problems that are obviously going to be in a wip map. moderation is what im getting at. anyways, good job so far hessi. what are you talking about. CC is simply CC. I dont always read through other people's posts when posting because of time constraints. Anyways often mapcore has conversations on a particular criticism. Furthermore if it is something that definately needs to be changed repeptitive criticism can help pound that into the designer's head. What I"m getting at is dont limit who or how someone should give constructive criticism. Quote
Meotwister Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 But it'll start to get ridiculous, and if I was the mapper, slightly annoying to hear the same things being said about something he obviously hasn't gotten to yet. If he was further along in the map then I'd agree with you, but he seems to have a good while to go and there's gonna be issues to be resolved later, that I'm sure he knows of already, but if not then yeah mentioning it is not a problem just repetition is what I was referring to. Anyways, this could get out of hand so I won't say anything more. can't wait to see more screens dude! Quote
hessi Posted September 4, 2005 Author Report Posted September 4, 2005 i am working on new stuff. perhabs new images can be seen this evening. Quote
ginsengavenger Posted September 4, 2005 Report Posted September 4, 2005 But it'll start to get ridiculous, and if I was the mapper, slightly annoying to hear the same things being said about something he obviously hasn't gotten to yet. it's no big deal, it's just another "like i said before...". which if it's obvious the guy didn't read the whole thread it's kind of a chastisement of the commentator more than anything else, and that is fair enough. some people can't take criticism but that's their own problem. hessi's clearly not one of them Quote
