Thrik Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 I wish people (D3) would use Google before making threads like though, though. 99% of times somebody else has experienced the problem, and websites/forums already exist addressing it. This is no exception; simply search for "messenger service" on Google and the second website which comes up explains what this is and how to disable it. Quote
RD Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 google doesnt support d3 Im actually glad d3 made this thread, because i would have panicked so hard if it happened to me, that i would make a thread myself Quote

Thrik Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 Funny, when I panic about a computer issue I go straight for Google where I'm generally guaranteed a specific answer to my problem within seconds, rather than making a thread on a forum and waiting for somebody to turn up with the correct answer themselves. Each to their own. Quote
RD Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 its not panick if u do exactly the right thing  Quote
D3ads Posted August 14, 2005 Author Report Posted August 14, 2005 Now I have some major problems: I have that damn about blank thing, and it downloads a virus everytime I open an IE window. I'm also getting popups.. Firewall has done nothing to block this.. wtf?! No idea how I got this, I have Zonealarm installed now so nothing should be coming through.. I can't seem to find out what the red icon actually is as well.. Done an adaware scan again and I get another 63 items, some of which are in the registry.. They've been deleted now, but I'm still getting problems.. Quote

D3ads Posted August 14, 2005 Author Report Posted August 14, 2005 Well the red icon thing has gone, thanks to Search and destroy scan on reboot. I have a load of crap in startup (msconfig) that points to mallicious files (that are now dead) is there anyway to get rid of those? Sorry about this like, I've just been a bit fed up recently with personal issues so I've been very careless about this stuff whilst my guard's been let down, I'm an idiot I admit it, any help you can give is appreciated.. For now, my games pc is staying offline till I've got it completely cleared again. Thanks for the firefox link, I'll have a look into it sometime... Quote
ReNo Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 It really is worth going over to firefox - there are next to no major changes and you can use it just like IE if you like, but as well as the security benefits it does have some useful functionality improvements too. No need to worry about losing your favourites or anything either, as those can be transferred from IE. I recommend that on top of running your usual anti-virus/spyware cleaners, you grab a registry scanner like CCleaner, which can analyse registry entries and weed out anything that is either unnecessary or malicious. Its also a nice fast way of cleaning up temp files, unlike the disk cleanup built into XP that takes about 10 minutes to estimate how much space you'll save if you compress files...something I don't want to do. MrH2o Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 Firefox is great, it have tabs, so you can now enjoy goth porn in one tab and quickly shift to NASA when your parents walks into your room. <3 D3 Quote
D3ads Posted August 16, 2005 Author Report Posted August 16, 2005 Yes, I'm a complete n00b I know, I really should know better.. in fact I DO, I was just very careless. Think we've managed to kill it now, just at a mate's house installing Service Pack 2 and doing a once over. That'll teach me to browse without a firewall.. guh. Thanks to all for the help.. Quote
Zazi Posted August 17, 2005 Report Posted August 17, 2005 Yes, I'm a complete n00b I know, I really should know better.. in fact I DO, I was just very careless. Even if you did know better (in which I don't believe, since you're posting all of your problems here instead of actually using any brain capacity at all), you can't be THAT careless to fix the shit you had. You'd have to be pretty braindead in order to actually not know any better as to what the hell you were doing. This thread makes me cry, really. D3: use google next time and save the kittens! Quote
