Political discussion exists to discuss whatever craziness we want to. It is not, however, a place where we can sit around an insult each other because we feel like it.

Let's keep it civil and talk about the people running the show; not whatever disputes we have on the forum.

Keep it above the belt.

I agree with zilla

Anyway, ppl should learn about the theory simply because it exists. Thats what Bush said in the article.

Its narrowminded to keep this out of schools just because u want to. Not scientific enough? School isnt just about learning facts, its also about learning some TOLERANCE. U learned about communism, fascism, cults, all kinds of theories and religions (i hope), not to brainwash u but to prepare u for the real world. The internet is the last place u want kids to learn stuff like this.

And to those who confuse me with someone who believes all these theories ... learn to read and stay on topic (posty/kosmo)

Oh and Posty, i dont have AOL  Im from europe. And "phenomenol" is with an a

As much as I like the principle of the idea of learning different "theories" I still think that, that kind of argument is the worst reason to teach something, read my "racial hygienie" comment.

And besides very few schools actually teach you objectively and widely about cults and different subreligions, many even university students I have spoken to (som very aware people) don't even know the basics of Buddhism or what the difference of Zen Buddhism and Buddhism is. And if you'd know even about half what I know about Asian cultures and religions impact on them you'd know that tolerance is the last thing we have and that comes mainly from our religion, and that is a rock solid fact.

It's narrowminded to think that one theory should be in school just because you want to teach tolerance or objectivity to a kid. Besides like with the religion, I have met several people who don't understand the difference of Communism and Socialism.

Just an opinion, I understand the use of abbreviations in irc or somewhere where your time to type is limited and the lenght of an "post" should be short for everyone to have time to read it. But this is a forum, you can take your sweet time answering and we can take our sweet time reading your post, so don't insult us by typing abbreviations like u, becuz or any other stupid "leet" talk, since I find it ignorant and feel that it is lack of respect to fellow poster.

Oh i DO feel that we should tell people about how in the past (or even now, some people just never learn) apartheid was a system. I also think that we shouldn't give people black/white pictures of those systems, but tell them about grayscales. Not all nazi's were bad.

And the internet teaches kids objectively? Btw what is ur point about students not knowing the difference between zen buddhism and buddhism?

Well u might have heard of a country called Holland, known around the world for its tolerance? Its probably the most atheistic country on this planet. I come from this place  Daan0 as well, and i can tell clearly by his posts which are filled with tolerance (Pericol0 is just over the border, it makes a world of difference).

Just think about who is intolerant now. You dont want kids to learn what ID is... what are you afraid of?

It seems the mere thought of dealing with ID in school fills ppl with anger. How tolerant.

Luckily u are only the second of 836 ppl who have complained about my grammar on this board. Btw ur posts are completely filled with grammatical errors (no offense but youre pretty famous for that around these forums), so are postys posts to a flabbergasting lesser degree, but i get over it. Actually it never even bothered me. This has nothing to do with respect but u can interpret it that way if u want to become angry for no reason, just be grateful the rest of the internet showed u the mercy i do.

Who the hell is talking about internet besides you? Not once have I seen a mention about "kids learning it from the internet" from other person than yourself.

Maybe you understand my point about people not knowing the difference between Buddhism and Zen Buddhism when you read your own post saying "School isnt just about learning facts, its also about learning some TOLERANCE. U learned about communism, fascism, cults, all kinds of theories and religions (i hope), not to brainwash u but to prepare u for the real world."

So how does the lack of actual knowledge of religions increase your tolerance? AND you completely bypass the fact that we are talking about american society and american education system which is known of it's "tolerence", so if people in Finland (which btw has one of the best schools and education systems in the world) doesn't know these things, I'm pretty sure that this kind of misinformation is not going to help people tolerate anything, it's just more fuel to the flame and more reasons to fight over about.

And if you'd know even about half what I know about Asian cultures and religions impact on them you'd know that tolerance is the last thing we have and that comes mainly from our religion, and that is a rock solid fact.

Have visited Holland couple of times, and I didn't see anything different to any western country, and I have to say that never have I heard about the "famous" tolerance you so much take credit for. Besides comparing any western country to countries from Indochina, China or Japan (countries with Taoism and Buddhism as major religions) your precious Holland is nowhere near tolerant.

And I'm not afraid of people knowing about ID, it's just that I don't see the point in teaching bogus assumptions and theories which have nothing to do with anything.

Look, I'm not complaining about your grammar, it's fine, I'm not a retard so I can understand you just fine with few mistakes, and I know my grammar is nowhere near perfect, but atleast I have the respect towards my fellow posters not to deliberately use stupid internet fashion talk just to up my cool status, besides it was invented for a purpose, to use in chats to shorten your message, and as I can see, this is not a chat! So you can type the three letters to present you instead of u. Besides the whole "u r teh leet cuz me sayz so 4nd tehre is no waeh to dizz meh u her" is not actually cool, it makes you look ignorant and lowers your credibility.

So how does the lack of actual knowledge of religions increase your tolerance?

You should answer this one. Your the one who doesnt want kids to learn about ID (which isnt a religion btw), not me.

As for the grammar, like i said before thats entirely ur interpretation. I talk like that to evrybody on here (u know this). Anyway lets stay on topic and stop the mindless flaming :) :)

*sigh*

RD you manage to completely miss the point.

Could someone just lock this inane thread and ban everyone who is ever trying to start another thread about ID or Evolution.

Personally i think the whole part of tolerance is that you should be in favor of teaching theories in school even if you strongly disagree with them. [insert famous Voltaire quote here]

Yes I agree with the tolerance part, but I'm not on the favor of tolerance, I'm on favor of quality teaching

Wow,what a tolerance

Anyway i guess the answer u tried to ask me was, how does lack of knowledge of religions decrease tolerance.

Well look at all these suicidebombings lately. There are alot of ppl upset at islam , even tho ofcourse its not islamic to blow yourself up. Ppl who knew nothing of islam now think they do, and theyre angry  Try to explain an angry man whoms first encounter with islam was a deadly blast, that islam is peaceful.

SCIENCE CLASS IS ABOUT SCIENCE NOT MYTHOLOGY. Teach it in philosophy, history or mythology. Tolerance is not about accepting stupid ideas into science or dumbing down science in favor of a religious idea. That isn't honest, good, or real science.
