nervousquirrel Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Ya no shit, these are beautiful. Hit me up if you want a project to work on EDIT: Sry for double posting, my internet blinked on me. Quote
insta Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Ok after several years of encouraging from Klein, I finally decided to try texturing. This is what I came up with in like....4 hours (whilst struggling to get PS to work with me). It's a bit too bright, but in-game it looks ok. This wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, so hopefully I'll be able to do my own textures from now on I'll certainly keep practicing. Edit: Also the pipes/wires near the top are waaaay too low res, but meh. Quote
Schmung Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 The green looks weird, like it's just a hue layer or something and has no texture or character of it's own. Quote
ReNo Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Wow, excellent effort for a first time! My first texture (which is still pretty much my ONLY texture) was just some crappy bog standard metal wall. Did you read any tutorials or anything, or just dive in and play around? Quote
insta Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Wow, excellent effort for a first time! My first texture (which is still pretty much my ONLY texture) was just some crappy bog standard metal wall. Did you read any tutorials or anything, or just dive in and play around? The latter. Of course, I'm sure the end result would be alot better if I had read a few tutorials first Quote
nervousquirrel Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 how the hell do you guys do this stuff? Quote
csharp Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 hmm maybe i should try.. havent made a real highdetail texture for a loooong time Quote
DaanO Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 insta, a few tips from a fellow-beginner Change the color of the green, a little more yellow and less saturated should work i think. You already said that those pipes are too low-res, i also think they're a bit too dark compared to the rest of the texture. Also, some of those stones around that circle uh thingy in the middle are cut of in a weird way, same goes for those stones at the top and bottom of the texture. But, above all, well done for a first texture. Work on it a bit more and you've got yourself a winner Quote
insta Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Thanks Daan0 Probably won't touch this texture anymore, but it was a fun learning experience. I'm focusing my efforts on replicating the Combine metal style as seen in HL2 to skin some models for a singleplayer map. Tricky stuff :E Quote
DaanO Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 You know, i learned many things from working on a texture until it was just perfect, asking feedback in the meanwhile. It really helps Quote
h2 Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 I had a lot of fun with this one! It looks strange but i wanted to make something differentb Quote
curman Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Mmmhmm, well, it's a little akward. By that, I mean good job first off. The erosion of pant towards the bottom is an excellent job. But something about it appears more 'cartoony' around the red bricks and the wrench. also, mind if I ask your source pictures (if ya did use any) of the bricks? Quote
hydeph Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 that looks real purdy my african american brethren. Quote
kleinluka Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 thats nice. i just made a test with that and darkened the bricks down to be sort of a brownish dark red and thought that looked pretty sweet in combination with the trim. try it. Quote
