Kosmo Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 GTA4 will start the World War 3, Rockstar Games or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Develop the Game. Oh and a quote from Hillary "BITCH" Clinton "Clinton went as far as to publicly equate violent games with cigarettes and alcohol as a hazard to America's youth." Yes, hazard of youngsters having fun! CrazyMAC Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 most adventurous PR trick ever pulled off. How else do you resell a game thats been out on another platform for almost a year Never know RS might just be getting there own back on the press for manhunt...bit of free advertising never hurt anyone. Alf-Life Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 Oh well, I think it was an 18 over here anyway. And there's no such thing as pad publicity... Still, I think games are going to be the new scapegoat for society's problems for a while just like Rock n Roll and 'Video Nasties' were. Quote
D3ads Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 All the GTA games have recieved 18 ratings here. This is nuts, but then I can't say I didn't see it coming  Quote
Izuno Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 Also... In the USA members of Congress, and most or all politicians, are not gamers. They grew up in a generation before video games. They don't value games or the sarcastic-don't-take-yourself-so-seriously gaming culture at all. So to me it's no surprise that the hotheads in Congress are going after video games with such ferocity. They have accepted TV and Hollywood and Radio, so they don't have this "I'm gunning for you no matter what" mentality the way they do with video games. Sure, the FCC went nuts after the Janet Jackson nipple thing, but that was a special case. I thnk all new forms of entertainment based on new technologies went through this kind of thing as this thread has already hinted on. Oh, it was Hatians that sued Rocktar over Vice City...right? Lee3dee Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 someone on ebay is cashing in on the coffee mod, which recently was removed on all the websites. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... =WDVW&rd=1 Quote
CrazyMAC Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 hmmm well this is abit lame for the industry. i don't think it will be self regulated anymore D=~ Quote
user Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 http://www.wired.com/news/games/0,2101, ... tw=rss.TOP "That parent doesn't necessarily know that mods are available for their 13-year-old to go out and find that could radically change the product," said ESRB vice president Patricia Vance. "If the rating itself is being undermined by third-party modification, I think we as an industry need to figure out what to do about that." On a lot of MP games I see a "ESRB notice: Game experience may change online" (something of that nature). PUT A GOD DAMN "EXPERIENCE MAY CHANGE WITH GAME MODIFICATIONS" LABEL ON IT YOU IDIOTS. (Btw, note that it says "13-year-old" on a game PREVIOUSLY RATED MATURE and NOW ADULTS ONLY, GOGO STUPID AMERICAN PARENTS) Quote
FrieChamp Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Now Rockstar isn't only being sued, they sue back in return! Their target: A music child project in Boston called "Rawkstar"! http://www.boston.com/news/globe/living ... _rockstar/ http://rawkstars.org/ I don't think the Rockstar guys can score with that at court! Kosmo Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Oh great, so now Microsoft owns the word Windows and Rockstar Games owns the word Rockstar? I'll trademark, register and copyright the letter E, the single most used letter in english language, so you won't be typing anything commercial anytime soon! Quote
user Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 We can substitute the letter E with the number 3. Kosmo, w3lcom3 to th3 world of silly lawsuits in Am3rica. H3r3's an 3xample: FUNimation announced that they licensed Detective Conan for a release in the United States, to be released as "Case Closed" due to legal issues concerning the name Conan (Conan the Barbarian). Yeah, that's right. Apparently you can't have Conan in any tv or movie titles, even tough the titles (Detective Conan vs. Conan the Barbarian) and the plots are completely different. Anoth3r 3xampl3 (mor3 anim3, sorry guys): The Cowboy Bebop movie carries the subtitle "Knockin' On Heaven's Door". However, due to a copyright dispute over the title, Columbia Tristar released it in America with the shortened title Cowboy Bebop: The Movie. Quote
user Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 And on one of those URLS New York-based Rockstar Games sure knows how to get publicity -- bad publicity, that is. Two days ago, its parent company, Take-Two Interactive Software, revealed that Rockstar's best-selling video game, ''Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," was the subject of a federal investigation because of a sexually explicit video hidden inside the software. They make it sound like theres hardcore porno (and REAL people doing it) inside the game. Quote
Kosmo Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 because of a sexually explicit video hidden inside the software. And here I was thinking that it was just a in-game cutscene  If they are going to badmouth something, atleast they could use proper terms for things like this, to avoid misleading people to false presumptions. Like UE pointed, the quote clearly implies that there is some sort of Ron Jeremy clip there. Quote
DaanO Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Ok, ok, i get it. Guns are great http://stream.2003.02.garnierprojects.com/geenstijl/knalluh.wmv and sex is bad, what a world. I can understand how killing machines are way cooler than love Quote
