I see Mapcore as a amazing gamedev community since it was started for Half-Life mods and now it's bigger, I had a dream where Mapcore would make games

it is possible that mapcore could be a game studio like Valve, Facepunch or Black Window Games?

would 100% support your games like the other indies :)

I would still enjoy collabing with a few people on Mapcore that I think are really talented and I’m a big fan of.

IMO the issue back then was that modding Source was not really enjoyable due to the technical headaches and mediocre graphical and technical results. We could have worked on UE4 I guess. IMO the issue now is that people are working on big projects of their own that they are really passionate about.

I have good hope for Source 2 that when it gets a pancake experience people could pick up modding in a big way again. That might be the best time frame for people here to work on cool projects together. In a way, it’s surprising to me that more people aren’t already using Source 2, but I think that’s a result of the VR focus. I would definitely get a kick out of working with people like @Minos@-HP- @PogoP and others. As we are getting older we might not agree on as much though :P

Once valve releases a non-vr game on Source2, you'll see how amazing that editor is, it's legit the best editor i've ever used.

It depends what it'll come attached with tho, if it's a CS-Scr2 release you'll be limited to what you can do with it.

Remember the time when they announced Source 2 would be released stand alone and free? ☹️

I think by the time we got to page 12 we were talking about using Unreal… back then was it already U4 or still UDK?

I finally prefer unreal engine over cryengine because of Lumen, only took a decade+ :shake:

I remember some of the collabs from back in the day, and it'd be cool to see something similar going on again but I dunno, things are different now.

There were plenty of game art forums that had big, active communities. You'd see the same people on all of them but everyone had their main forum they called home-base. Dominance War was always a blast, got to represent your forum like it was the game art olympics or some shit.

Starting a studio is clearly different from forum collabs and competitions, and maybe I'm just being nostalgic but the impact just isn't there anymore, not for me at least.

I agree. We, as a civilization, need to apply more selection pressure on low-impact game developers. That's why we need a new world war. If you're not gonna make serious games, go fight in the trenches! I'm sick of these pussy ass games diluting the internet.

I just meant it was a different time. We were all trying to figure this 3d shit out, it made seeing what others pulled off in challenges and collabs all the more awesome and inspiring. What was even cooler was watching some of the top dogs on the forums get together to start their own mod teams, some of which eventually blew up into something like the original insurgency mod for hl2 or project reality mod for bf2.

Now we've either been doing games professionally for 10 years on or decided to keep game dev as a hobby and do something else for a living. Everything's been figured out, it's not surprising when someone creates a dope map or an environment that looks good.

Though it seems now studios have lost the capability to create a good game, forget a great game.

Maybe mapcore studios would be able to rise to that challenge.
