Should have enough time to finally play GTA V

I’ve actually just picked it back up! I had done only a handful of early missions and abandoned (GTA doesn’t like wireless headphones)

Really curious to find out the setting.

There were rumours about London, but despite they had an early game set there, and there have been other games recently set there… I feel it would be kinda weird. When I go round I don’t get the vibe of crime that a GTA game thrives on. Maybe they’ll manage to bring a Guy Ritchie film to game ?

Where else could they set it? Vice City current times? An alternate Texas?

Rumors about Vice City as the new location have been circulating since forever, but nothing is for sure

It would also be nice if it predates the ubiquity of mobile phones so that gameplay isn't constantly interrupted by incoming phone calls.

What you mean by this? (How would it work)

I feel GTA5 (that I’m playing atm) has far less calls than GTA4.

I’m actually a bit let down by the unavailability of people to do side activities like meeting up. Apart from when I was told to meet someone because of story progression they are always unavailable (as in busy number or voicemail). In GTA4 the other characters were constantly trying to divert you from the missions and was annoying.

I didn't play all the way through 4 or 5 and phonecalls were one of the reasons in both tbh. I get enough annoying side missions from my phone in real life, so I want GTA to just let me drive around exploring and fucking shit up.

In terms of a diegetic way to deliver missions pagers aren't so intrusive, or if they really broke the mould they could go in to the future and have the main character wear some sort of cyber-goggles where missions get dropped, again in a non-obtrusive way.

I never felt like it was difficult to find side-missions in the 2D GTA's or 3/VC/SA.

I hope it is Vice City. A lot of younger people never played the original, and Cocaine cowboys makes it clear what a disaster Miami was in the 70s and 80s. Murder capital of the entire world, drug lords getting bayoneted in the middle of airport terminals. Pretty much anything is believable in that setting, it’s perfect for a GTA sequel.

But isn’t the phone quote diegetic, or as diegetic you can get in a third person game? Listening to a call to get briefed seems less intrusive than anything, the big problem is the timing.

I get what you mean about older iterations of the game, they  really rewarded exploration, in particular in 2D GTA… all of those bomb-wired vehicles there to bait you etc, was cool.

I was pretty disappointed in my last GTA5, session I got into an ambulance and there was no mini game ? it seems weird that they got rid of those, maybe it’s just gated because where I am in the game. I also wanted to try if there was the ice cream van mini game.

Vice City is my favourite GTA, but I expect them to do modern-day Miami if they do, maybe revisit some characters or areas… like in GTA5 one of the last missions I played was paying a visit  to the house next of CJ’s basically.

Startup had all that gang stuff in Little Haiti that would fit quite nicely(?)

Modern-day Miami could be interesting, but something tells me they're probably going back to the past again. The 80's theme of Vice City was likely the thing that people connected the most.

I think London could be great, it's the melting pot hub of europe, so much to grab and have some fun there. Maybe they can do the 90's this time around? I wanna storm inside a gritty underground club blasting europop music as this guy

I dread to think the amount of resources/dolla dolla and dev time that is gonna get pooled into the 6th instalment.

the stories about the new red dead made it seem like they took half the development team and shoved them in a giant blender. gonna be interesting to see the ones after this!

VC is my favourite GTA so if be happy to see the high-res version of that ?  but I kinda expect them to do sort of a trilogy based in current times. (Although GTA like FC hasn’t respected any traditional sequel-prequel convention.)

It just doesn’t seem there’s any interest for the 80s cheese right now. It doesn’t seem to be a trend there.

In modern day Miami they could go off Heat ;)
