ReNo Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 It smooths out the lightmaps between faces that lie within the given angle of each other. Basically it helps make curves appear round and smooth rather than fragmented and "stepped".
Zacker Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 This effect is however already activated as standard. The default smoothing value is 50, which I don't see any need for changing. The -smooth parameter is just for changing this value.
mike-0 Posted July 20, 2005 Author Report Posted July 20, 2005 new problem I thought it meant that i had too many lights on one texture, so i clipped some brushes into two seperate brushes, but i got the same error.
ReNo Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 What chop value are you using with RAD? I don't remember ever running into problems while using a chop of 16 (this determines the resolution of the lightmaps, so would appear to be linked with your new problem), but its been a while since I've done HL1 mapping.
mike-0 Posted July 20, 2005 Author Report Posted July 20, 2005 i set it to 16 and i still get the same error
ReNo Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 Try 32 I know its not ideal to lose out on that lighting detail, but at least if it works at 32 you have narrowed the problem down and can start trying to figure out solutions.
von*ferret Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 post your log and compile settings before asking for help
⌐■_■ Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 ... Maybe u could fiddle with (or check) the lightmap scale (of your brushes)? Documentation: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Hammer_Face_Edit_Dialog#Lightmap_Scale
ginsengavenger Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 1) this thread is a month old. 2) this is a question about HL1 mapping.
