insta Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 Kudos for releasing the maps, I'm sure some people will find it very helpfull. Are you continuing mapping for HL2 or another engine? Quote
Minos Posted July 13, 2005 Author Report Posted July 13, 2005 Well who knows, I getting tired of mapping and gaming more and more these days. Maybe when I get HL2. Yeah I dont have money to afford the expensive computer parts they sell in this country. Maybe that's the reason I dunno. What really pisses me off about game development in general is that its increasingly getting souless each day. I havent played a game with "soul" since psx. These new game devs are getting into it for the money instead of the passion. Besides that, considering that making a game for the new gen will be extremely expensive, only the strong franchises (I hate this word) will have a good chance to be succesful. That means many cool companies will go bankrupt and only the stronger ones like EA, microsoft, nintendo, etc etc will survive and monopolize everything. There's always some new part to buy, goddamn it, I hate having to upgrade stuff in a short period of time. Most of the mappers are selfish, they dont enjoy sharing their knowledge and "secrets" and many think too superior of themselves, like if they were gods or something. Only a few people are like that here in mapcore but its pretty much like that in other communities. And last but not least I'm not sure I wanna keep working on stuff that will be obsolette in 2 months (or less) after the release. The good part of having "wasted" my past 3 years on mapping is that I made a lot of good friends. Artistic wise I learned lots about observation, color usage and specially how to use photoshop and 3d studio max. I also learned to accept critics and then get stronger with them. Will this is not a goodbye thing but all this shit have been inside me for quite a long time, I had to say it. Quote
PhilipK Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 I understand what you mean mino. I can agree to some point. It's a shame. But as long as there every now and then comes extremly nice games I'm still happy. But it will probably take very long till I can play a single player game that catches my interest as Half-Life did. I can only hope you will continue, if not mapping, at least modelling. You got some serious talent and a really good eye for artistic stuff. Quote
Tequila Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 Cant you guys import rmfs in Hammer 4 ? Strangely, some work, some just give me an error. Oh and just read your post. Stay with us, Mino. Don't be too down, stuff like Sin and its episodic style, if it works, and I pray it does, would help destroy such monopolies by lettting any developer get it on distribution with a fraction of the overhead. I'm still wondering what's the point of keeping your map sources and secrets to yourself. Everybody will most likely just forget your map in a month or two and you'll source files will keep gathering dust somewhere in the depths of your C: drive... What a waste. The game editing scene is seriously lacking of a place for developers to dump their map sources and textures for others to take advice from. I, for one, would surely join in. Quote

As I said this is not good bye Im just pissed off with all this shit. Will probably keep modelling props for insurgency though, havent been excited for a game/mod like that for quite a long time. Schmung Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 I'll be releasing most of what I've got after TS 2.2 comes out. THere's nothing that amazing there, but I'm hoping some people might wish to finish some of the things I didn't and maybe tidy up some of my better map.s Going to take a look at all this properly now, nice to see people doing this from time to time. Minos Posted July 13, 2005 Author Report Posted July 13, 2005 I can only support you schmung, will be specially good for the TS mapping community. Quote
st0lve Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 min0 I wasnt kidding when I wrote that you can have my gfx card after the summer (or when I get another card). then u can play HL2 Quote
Minos Posted July 14, 2005 Author Report Posted July 14, 2005 All I need is RAM actually, I got DDR but my old mobo works with DIMM. Now nobody will buy this shit My dad got a cool pc recently (semprom2.8, radeon 7200, 512mb), at least for brazilian standards. I can map from there on the weekends if I feel like it. Quote
-Stratesiz- Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 Yah I feel the same, I just don't have that passion I used to feel for mapping. Nevertheless your stuff is flabbergastingly good! ~~ Quote

There's always some new part to buy, goddamn it, I hate having to upgrade stuff in a short period of time. That's why I don't go for upgrading every 1-3 years. Most of the heavists games all suck, you play once, enjoy all the eye candy and then poof, forget it. And that's why I map for old commercial games that went open source, like doom, duke3d and quake. The game editing scene is seriously lacking of a place for developers to dump their map sources and textures for others to take advice from. I, for one, would surely join in. Like Unreal powered games, all maps are free to open, inccluding its map contents, to see how things were done. Thanks God nexuiz is full open source, all its maps comes with the map file for you to see how maps are before compiling it. Quote
Crackerjack Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 MINO_!~~~!!!~!@ Awesome stuff brother!
