text_fish Posted December 10, 2021 Report Posted December 10, 2021 John Wick as played by Jake Gyllenhaal? Not sure about this whole "survival horror" thing. I hope they still have a few balls-to-the-wall action sequences with cheesy heavy metal. I feel like Alan Wake should be 80/90's "dark", not 2021 "dark". ThunderKeil and blackdog 2 Quote

"We have now announced Alan Wake 2. This is a monumental moment for us at Remedy. For me personally. Leading up to the announcement, our internal codename for the sequel has been Project Big Fish. David Lynch has said: “Ideas are like fish. If you want to catch little fish, you can stay in the shallow water. But if you want to catch the big fish, you’ve got to go deeper.” Alan Wake 2 is our big fish. We are diving deeper than ever, into an ocean of darkness. Whereas the first Alan Wake had horror elements in it, it was an action game. Alan Wake 2 is Remedy’s first survival horror game. Our take on the genre. Our opportunity to truly connect the gameplay and the story. It is a deep, layered mystery. So, Alan Wake 2 confirmed and coming in 2023 presented by Epic Games Publishing. Thank you, our long-standing fans, this is what you have been waiting for, and welcome to those who are just discovering Alan Wake’s story." Edited December 10, 2021 by Radu Buddy 1 Quote

ZZZ Posted December 11, 2021 Report Posted December 11, 2021 By partnering with Epic it could mean UE5. Quote
blackdog Posted December 11, 2021 Report Posted December 11, 2021 (edited) Don’t see why, they seem very proud of their engine, which looked very good to everyone. When they teased the partnership it sounded more a matter of publishing agreement/relationship with epic dumping money and being very hands off. We’ll find out soon enough tho. They already stated they are working on their Northlight engine for this sequel, I don't really see a reason they would change that at least 1 year prior to release? Their partnership seemed to be purely a developer-publisher relationship to me, I could be wrong but I did not see any incentive to work with Epic's engine; even for Crossfire X where the multiplayer is running on Unreal Engine 4, Remedy went with Northlight for the single-player... ZZZ Posted December 11, 2021 Report Posted December 11, 2021 Just watched Sam Lake talking about AW2 and they aren't changing engines. Their workflow is probably deeply tied to their own engine. -HP- and Zarsky 2 Quote
-HP- Posted December 12, 2021 Report Posted December 12, 2021 Yeah, Remedy has deep roots to the demo scene. All their games use proprietary tech, which is great. As much as I love UE, it's great to still have some teams out there making their own engines.. Zarsky and blackdog 2 Quote
Zarsky Posted December 12, 2021 Report Posted December 12, 2021 Afaik one of Remedy's projects called Vanguard is based on UE, but the rest should all be Northlight based. Their tech has always been fairly competent, so don’t really see any reason they should abandon it. Mr.Yeah! 1 Quote
