Kosmo Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Yeah, well I never expected anything groundbreaking from F.E.A.R. since it is Monoliths game, they have a habit of coming up with ideas and then underachieving. Quote
insta Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 i wasn't even talking about that Just the graphics, FEAR has a pretty generic realism style, eventhough they use all the latest blingbling the art side of it isnt very original :/ Have you seen screenshots from the multiplayer beta test? The maps and textures aren't very impressive at all, atleast not compared to the stuff which was seen in the movie with that scary girl and whatnot. Quote
InsaneSingingBlender Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 yeah, fears graphics are not that great when you actually play it, its got some really cool effects like relief mapped (not sure, but it looks like it) bullet holes and cool particles and lightning. Quote
Zacker Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 I like these screens! It's cool to see that they already got a bunch of content. There is a few hl2 materials and props in there, but far from anything which can annoy me. I think it's 100% ok to do such things, as long as they fit in. Quote
D3ads Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Some of it looks like ass, I mean wtf is with those blurry vehicles with almost no detail at all?!!! Mind you, I said Doom 3 looked like ass to begin with and ended up changing my mind, it has potential at least. Never played Sin... Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Some of it looks like ass, I mean wtf is with those blurry vehicles with almost no detail at all?!!! A car chase with a shitload of stuff happening very quickly? Quote
von*ferret Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 interesting but not my style. I like how people take hipolygon and go another way from realism though. So nice job for them on trying something new, just doesn't do anything for me. Quote
Kosmo Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Well it is cool to actually see how there are two totally different styles of games coming out/or out right now, one group being Doom 3 the upcoming Quake 4 , Prey and Enemy Territories: Quake wars, Gears of War and UT2k7 and the other group being Half-life 2, Vampire the masqurade: Bloodlines, and Sin2. Group number one is very high on detail, they do detail with textures, details with shaders, details with lighting and so on, insane amounts of little bits and pieces of details to see everywherer. Group number two is simple clean world, detail is there where it is needed, and even when it is needed, they are done with textures if possible, maybe using shaders but not overworking them. When looking the two kinds of games, I have not yet made up my mind which game type I like the most, but I am fairly sure that I will like both of them, not every game competing with each other, so maybe this is just the thing that Will Wright and Saturo Iwata are talking about, taking games again in to a different direction, taking alot of workload off from developers and using resources to different kind of development than just pushing out thousands of models and reusing them to death. So we should take a look at things from this kind of perspective for a while. Even tho I didn't like the original Sin, who knows, maybe they have incorporated some excellent elements form HL2 which I think has easily one of the best gameplay in every straight forward FPS. EjrulF Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 reminds me of the orginal sin they've really caught the orginal mood and atmosphere Quote
