SirSnail Posted October 13, 2021 Report Posted October 13, 2021 de_wake by SirSnail Wake is finally up! Set on an island castle with a secret lab entrance in the back, this project was fun and a good learning experience. Feedback is welcome! Kokopelli Posted October 15, 2021 Report Posted October 15, 2021 Nice layout. I like that the CTs don't have the archetypical safe route--results in a design that has very efficient use of space and makes it unique. My main criticism is that the secret lab theme feels a bit strange and shoehorned in. I feel like you could have just made it all castle themed, but maybe that's just me. Overall, thumbs up. blackdog Posted October 18, 2021 Report Posted October 18, 2021 From this couple of screens it’s hard to tell how you manage the transition between themes, which is visually the hardest thing to do. At the moment I would agree with Koko. The top down layout seems interesting despite the many 90° angles, makes me curious! SirSnail 1 Quote
Byron Posted October 19, 2021 Report Posted October 19, 2021 (edited) Great work for a first map. In-game the theme change feels a little less jarring than shown in the pictures, but still feels a little bit off. There are a few small issues, the fog is a bit too high, the boxes on the upper T spawn area fade out a bit too aggressively and there is a missing texture on the T spawn stairs. I also think the bushes shouldn't be clipped off on the bombsite, feels weird running across the fence and getting stuck. The water had some graphical glitches for me, and I think it's a bit drastic to have the shallow water insta kill players, maybe just clip it off. Bit of a minor nitpick, but I think the sightline from T spawn to the upper bombsite enterance should be blocked, maybe just stack another box ontop of the one already inside. Overall though, solid layout and good visuals. Edited October 19, 2021 by Byron SirSnail 1 Quote
