Taylor Swift Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 wow. I DON"T see how you can see that as anything but amazing. You're crazy nexus. Also quite a display of power from the 7800. I should be interested to see ATi's answer to that. ok, but not so amazing video. stalker : shadow of chernobyl - have 10 km open large map.
Taylor Swift Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 Ah good old Tim Sweeney. Clever guy to be sure, but not much of a public speaker Nexus, did you even watch the whole thing? When it zooms out and shows lots of the city, do you seriously think that is unimpressive? Do you think any engine currently on the market could manage that? i like when the guy says. Is it all realtime? yeah absolutly. well i dont know lol its cool then!
JynxDaddy Posted July 9, 2005 Report Posted July 9, 2005 See sig. Oh and that vide is cool, I hadn't seen the city zoom out before, Im not too keen on realtime lighting, it takes so much effort and it is mostly going to waste because its dynamic yet doesnt always get changed ingame. I dunno, if I dont have to fork out 4k to play it I'm happy.
TomWithTheWeather Posted July 9, 2005 Report Posted July 9, 2005 On another note, did they ever determine if that E3 Killzone 2 preview was in game graphics? Everything at E3 was prerendered except Epic's stuff and some of EA's stuff. Killzone was all CG. Hey now, we ran real-time. Sorry, what I meant was, all the next-gen stuff at E3 was prerendered except...
TomWithTheWeather Posted July 9, 2005 Report Posted July 9, 2005 Second thing is, that it looks like the Unreal3 engine can't handle so many polygons as I thought it could do. No, it's more like the hardware running that demo is probably close to minimum spec and as a result you can't just put as many polys on the screen as you'd want to. I can't remember the last time an actual game engine had a poly limit for models. As long as the hardware you're playing on is fast enough you can cram in as many polys as you want.
Vinny Testaverde Posted July 9, 2005 Report Posted July 9, 2005 anyone have a link where you dont have to be a member?
Zazi Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Second thing is, that it looks like the Unreal3 engine can't handle so many polygons as I thought it could do. Once again I learn not to trust in early "screenshots". But as I said, the Unreal3 engine is still very stunning. Oh how I wish I could just show you what you can do with the U3 engine... /me dies.
kleinluka Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 Yeah it's pretty much the other way around, the hardware can't handle all the polygons that UE3 wants to display
Kosmo Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 But this is exactly the kind of bullshit the developers have been pulling in the past already, ooh look at all the awesome coolness that is all leet like. Doom3 it was first demonstrated with Geforce 3 cards, and used alot of techniques built on it's technology, and now four card generations later, I have seen some tests with GF 7800 GTX, Athlon64 FX-55 and 2gigs of RAM and it runs the game very smoothly at HQ 4xAA 8xAF 12x10 resolution, so you can bet your skinny ass that UE3 will run smoothly when we advance next three or four generations of GPUs and few generations of CPUs. But, I'm very pleased to see that engines are actually now delivering what they promised us that the shaders would be able to do THREE YEARS AGO, and sine my new CPU and GF 7800 GTX will be arriving tomorrow, I'm not complaining.

von*ferret Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 can't wait for u3. Gonna start building art assets right now for it.
Lee3dee Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 seen it all before, only difference is that you get an introduction by a nerdy guy the nerdy guy is Tim Sweeny Chairman and CEO or Epic. hehe The gears of war demo was far better to show off the power of the new engine. The level of detail and lighting was better than the tech demos.
