csWaldo Posted November 26, 2020 Report Posted November 26, 2020 @esspho and I are teaming up for a new defuse map. Welcome to Norilsk, a soviet mining city in the arctic circle shaped by freezing temperatures, high pollution and 45 days of night in winter. Some of the mood and references we are going for: Spoiler Concept art I made of how this could look in source: 3d concept for the layout, developed by esspho:https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/3d130ab7-062e-48e3-88f7-7d255d7aae88/defurnace-conceptConcept overview with pathing: Greybox is in the works. NikiOo Posted November 28, 2020 Report Posted November 28, 2020 I really like the theme. It's not something you see very often. I believe you guys will know how to romanticize this cold industrial city. The layout looks a bit on the large side with a lot of narrow pathways, but you'll get a better sense for it when you build it in hammer. If you're still looking for references, there's this Facebook group, https://www.facebook.com/SocModernism/ It was one of the sources of inspiration for a current project of mine with a similar theme. Good luck with the project and I'd love to see where you take it. csWaldo and esspho 2 Quote

csWaldo Posted December 6, 2020 Author Report Posted December 6, 2020 Thinking about making some interactive frozen puddles. Of course the effect would be somewhat limited. Think this would be fun or annoying? puddle.mp4 Quote
Radu Posted December 6, 2020 Report Posted December 6, 2020 It would be a novelty element, cool to see the first time and never looked at again afterwards. Idk, I guess it could have some strategic gimmick potential? If you make large puddles towards some corners or areas that you have to avoid as to not give your position away. I doubt it's worth the time investment. Quote
csWaldo Posted December 6, 2020 Author Report Posted December 6, 2020 Yeah makes sense. Guess I'll come back to this idea later. In the meantime, some bomb site impressions: JackT, Freaky_Banana, -HP- and 1 other 4 Quote

esspho Posted December 20, 2020 Report Posted December 20, 2020 (edited) You can check out an early version of Furnace on the workshop: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2326921664 Any feedback is well appreciated! We'll be doing some playtesting in the next days and weeks as well. Here are some WIPs: The central canal divides the map's residential and industrial parts. CTs spawn below bombsite A - an electric arc furnace. The Terrorist's plan B is to bomb the nearby gas silos located by the canal. For now we went with a layered radar. We're propably going to try an overlayed version in the future. Top level radar Bottom level radar Edited December 20, 2020 by esspho typo dmu, blackdog, Squad and 5 others 5 3 Quote

esspho Posted December 29, 2020 Report Posted December 29, 2020 We've had a first playtest and got some valuable feedback from that. With that in mind we are fleshing out the individual areas some more. Hopefully we'll have a map update soon. Mr.Yeah!, csWaldo, Kokopelli and 1 other 4 Quote
csWaldo Posted December 31, 2020 Author Report Posted December 31, 2020 another idea we want to try out on our next playtest... esspho 1 Quote
blackdog Posted January 2, 2021 Report Posted January 2, 2021 You plant the bomb in there @csWaldo? Quote

The inside is not accessible, so it's basically a sightlines through the cover. We will need to see how that plays in the next playtest, but we thought the idea was neat. Freaky_Banana 1 Quote
blackdog Posted January 2, 2021 Report Posted January 2, 2021 Yeah definitely looks interesting from the screens, I like the idea. Quote
