Kosmo Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Many of you might know about Relics next RTS Company of Heroes and their new shooter(?) The Outfit, but I just had to take time and just note how awe inspiring Relics work is, watching the screens and videos of Company (short for company of heroes since CoH is already taken) just blows my mind away, I have played RTS games for all my life and not once I have seen anything like Company. Few days ago I stumbled on Gamespots screen archive of Company and I had to pick my jaw from the floor, just the sheer detail and style of the models in Company is amazing, Relic has some of the most talented people in the world, no the universe. But like always, these are just opinions, but I really suggest that you take a look of these. German Soldier USA Soldier I just have to say, that if these are the in-game models for an RTS game, damn, I can't even do that good FPS models, and I really dig the textures. Quote
sensee Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Don' get me wrong, Company of Heroes and The Outfit look very nice and Relic is a damn cool company (I just love Homeworld), but I'm getting really, really, really sick of WWII games. An why do they produce two of them? Must be boring for a designer to create the 100th sherman tank and the 101th french farmhouse. Quote
RD Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 ww2 never gets boring. And Kosmo, wait for the final game before u get 2excited =) Quote

But I must agree with RD too, I have always been a sucker for anykind of action game especially if it is an RTS, regardless of the setting. And RD I just can't help myself getting so excited about Relic games, it's like cocaine to me. Quote
Mazy Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 i love how that german guy looks totally gay ;D anyway, yeah ww2 is very overused these days, but good games will be good no matter the setting, and i love the ww2 period as well. Still, dont think ill be able to handle another ww2 fps :G Quote
Kosmo Posted June 22, 2005 Author Report Posted June 22, 2005 Game designers should really try the limits of WW2 setting, we have had alot of WW2 RTS game, even more WW2 FPS games and some WW2 flight, tank and naval simulators. Maybe we should try like WW2 themed building game like Simcity and WW2 themed Sims, or maybe WW2 themed racing game. There is very little variety in WW2 games. Quote
Tequila Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 WW2 Kart! 3 laps round Berlin, with green and red (artillery) shells as weapons! Quote
RD Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 I agree with current ww2 games being too dramatic and glamorous and filled with clichés. Btw that American soldier model looks ridiculously muscular. Americans in ww2 were 18-19 yr old kiddies with guns. Quote
Mojo Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Company looks cool, just I hate how their US soldiers look like a mix between RTCW and present day US marines. But their trailer has one of the best screams ever in a game. Quote

Lurker Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 I'm also getting sick of the light hearted approach and glamorizing (is that even a word) of the actual happenings, the games portray USA troops as valiant heroes with clean morales and bright white smiles and German soldiers as just regular German soldiers, not Nazis nor do they portray the actions both sides took during the war. Not sure what you meant by the German comment, but I'll go by what I think you're trying to say. You're trying to say that most of the German soldiers in the military during WWII were Nazi and sympathized with everything the Nazi's were doing. Thats no where near entirely correct, while there were certain factions of the German military which were fiercily loyal, such as the SS, the vast majority of German units were composed of conscripts, for example the normal soldiers you speak of. Most of these people were not Nazis, rather, fighting for their country. Most were completely normal and level-headed human beings. The nutcases who were carrying out the atrocities generally weren't level-headed or sane, and shouldn't be confused with conscripted units. Then again, you could have meant exactly that, and I could just have misunderstood what you said. Quote
