Duff-e Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 i dont get why people are shitting on the graphics so much....am i the only one that thinks the game looks amazing? get in the JSF on the carrier and do a vertical take off in 3rd person....tell me that bf1942 even touches that quality or the phalanx on the uss essex (gun on the carrier)....look at it rotate and what not....it looks amazing i think its the best looking game out there right now considering what it is Quote
Mazy Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 I totally agree duffy But then I havent heard anybody dissing the visuals (Donno if somebody here did, I kinda ignore those comments D:!) Quote
Thrik Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 Yes, the visuals are great. Granted, they're not so hot if you lack the hardware brute force to actually display them fully, but if you do with all the bells and whistles then it looks extremely nice considering that it's such a large and open game. Try to do this on most other engines and they'd probably fall over and die immediately. Quote
Nazul Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 i got it all on low it looks playable for me with this kind of pc when i set it on medium i noticed the game became lots and lots more detailed en sharp.. but my pc couldnt handle it still playing it though .. /me boots bf2 demo Quote
RD Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 How do i do stuff as commander and wut can i do? I was commander yesterday but i didnt see any extra optionz Quote
Nazul Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 yo have to call in artillery and you have to press page up / down to say yes or no to a squad leaders' needs press V or something ? or just caps lock and right clikc on the map and you can do stuff Quote
Thrik Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 Yes, press caps lock to open up the commander view. It took me a while to work that one out, since I'd never noticed that you can get a similar view up using the same key whilst a squad leader. They're both very similar. As for the special features you didn't see.. Squad leaders: - Can right-click waypoints anywhere on the map which will appear for all people in the squad. - Anybody in the squad can spawn from the squad leader's current position. - Can directly call for artillery/uav/supply support from the commander on specific locations with the caps lock right-clicking interface. Commander: - Can select squads and then right-click a waypoint on the map, kind of like the squad leader except it will only show the waypoint for the squad leader. It's then up to him to waypoint his own men there. - Can drop artillery/uav/supply support wherever he wants either using the caps lock interface or by simply pointing somewhere in first person and using the secondary radio menu (like the normal "I need backup!" etc one, except with stuff like "call for artillery drop" on it). - Gets an overview of the entire map whilst in the caps lock interface, and can zoom right in to a birds eye view of the actual combat. You can then spot enemies whilst zoomed in this close and right-click them to indicate them to your men. Personally, I much prefer playing as a squad leader than a commander. You get a lot of the commander's features, such as all the waypointing stuff, except you also get more direct control over your men and lead them into battle. A commander is more broad, and you end up just sitting there in the commander view telling different squads where to go and dropping supplies and shit when squad leaders ask for them.. it gets kind of boring. Usually if you're a squad leader and ask for artillery somewhere, the commander will do it for you anyway since he gets a little thing telling him to. Squad leaders also get the whole "people can spawn from him" thing, which is just awesome for getting a big group of you together for an assault. Generally, I have a lot more fun playing as a squad leader since I like to take a leading position without having to manage the whole damn war. I'm better at directing and taking over individual areas bit by bit. The waypointing system really makes this easy to order your men, and it really is one of the best features of a game in years. The last time I enjoyed a similar control system was in PlanetSide, which is an MMOFPS. In fact, I find that BF2 has a lot of the features which more "epic" games like PlanetSide have. It's almost like an MMO game without the MMO, when you play on no time limit servers (213.253.57.56 is the Thrik's server of choice). God this game is great. So yeah, that sums it up. Quote
Mazy Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 I just find being the commander boring because I know its so much more fun to run around and do the work, but maybe Im just not enough into playing as the commander. However, I have become a pretty good squad leader, my squads pretty much always end up as the hitscorers ~ Quote
Zacker Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 I have now tried BF2 a few times I don't think it is that good. It was ok fun, but got boring after a little hour. Maybe it's just the dissapointment over that what they have done in BF2 is what we are working on in SoW2:/ I bet they have stolen our dd. The graphics look ok and it also runs fine on my system. The should not support a GF5600, but my bro got that and he runs the game fine too. None of us have installed the latest drivers nor the special ones which followed the game:) Quote
Kosmo Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 Who cares about the graphics, BF2 rocks for fast action when taking a break from leveling in WoW, it's not NS but NS is for longer play perioids anyway. Quote
sensee Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 BF2 is only funny when you're not playing with morons. And that's rare on the public servers. Quote
Skjalg Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 BF2 is the bee's knees fo shizzle. First game in 6 months to tear me away from WoW (thank god) All the new squad and commander stuff is awesome, being part of squad SABOTAGE, and spawning ontop of your leader hidden in the enemy base and tosing C4 left and right is quite a rush. All the fun of 1942 and DC, with just a little bit extra zest. Nothing revolutionary, but why fix something thats not broken. Every word rings true!! I agree ;> Quote
