Seldoon182 Posted November 20, 2019 Report Posted November 20, 2019 (edited) Since a couple of years, I've meet video games developers in Bitcoin Conferences and crypto meetups. The ideas and proof-of-concepts are interesting but I always pointed out the lack of graphics quality. I wanted to share with the Mapcore Community know for (imo) some of the best game dev in the world and artist like HP, Thomas Hess, Minos, Peris 'volatillllllllllllle' scope, Moroes and so on! - What are your stance on it guys? - Who is/would be interested in adding crypto in video games? - I would be really interested about your idea/concept that could be developed. Any cool use cases idea to share? Here's some interesting project using the Lightning Network. As a reminder the LN is a second layer working on top of Bitcoin which allow micro-transaction applications (through HTLC Smart contract) using the most secure and neutral network in the world: Bitcoin protocol. - Donnerlab/Fabiovisio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiUyVwctJ58 - MandelDuck (from Japan) doing interesting games such as Takara where you can give bitcoins and find bitcoins. https://www.youtube.com/user/MandelDuck Aside Bitcoin, there is Ethereum a non scriptless script platform (less efficient than Bitcoin in terms of code simplicity and more centralized dev core team and consensus). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cw24ySJoGYk - https://0xuniverse.com/ - https://www.mycryptoheroes.net/ And the famous Cryptokitties... Last but not least there is other centralized platform such as EOS in Asia who are pretty well known for cheap in-game transaction. Wouldn't recommend for lack of sovereignty on your digital asset (the lower the blocktime, the more the consensus system will be centralized). Ps: Could have named this thread "DeFi + Video games" which stand for "Decentralized Finance". There is good article on this topic here. Edited November 20, 2019 by Seldoon182 Quote

blackdog Posted November 20, 2019 Report Posted November 20, 2019 I would expect experts in crypto to suggest ideas of useful usage of crypto in games? If all goes back to micro transactions I am inclined to say: nobody likes micro transactions. G__R 1 Quote

I wonder if cryptocurrencies are mature enough. It's fair to state on the micro tx phobio in video games in general. I share this thought but this is not the case in Asia. People are crazy with micro tx in Japan, Korea or China. -Hows about a World of Warcraft Gold base on a in-house forked bitcoin protocol or Blizzard's private Bitcoind network? This would be something I trust more than https://ark.io/ by example. Btw French in cryptospace are known to be scamer ahah Sorry for Goxed customers! - Could be just for buying games on Steam, Battle.net, ... - Could also be challenge/bet. Hows about to bet on the stream of two CS:GO team? - We could also play with games theory in video games. Some experimentation from MandelDuck are promising with good action = earn satoshi and bad action = lose satoshi. Even if I am security maximalist I have shitcoins there and there so why not? People are crazy with micro tx in Japan, Korea or China. I just imagine that most devs aren’t in the know of crypto so they wouldn’t know what a good use would be and how to implement. On the other hand I thought the premise was to find original use cases for crypto in games, so existing examples are not great? I dunno, I don’t know crypto in general, it’s fascinating, I’d like to know more and possibly invest a little but my perception from outside is that people that have crypto just want to hog it. It doesn’t seem anyone is using it as value to exchange, as money to buy goods. So using it as in-game currency seems something that benefits only the service holder(?). From what I’ve heard recently, is not much the crypto currency that would be interesting for games, but the blockchain technology… but it’s concepts I’ve heard talking about just in very abstract way. For my current understanding, I would think you could have blockchain in Death Stranding to manage this asynchronous collab/coop building. As an idea the first thing I can think of is using the concept of mining for coin and make it visual. I dunno, some sort of Minecraft Anyway, like I said “nobody” likes micro transactions, and with the current trend of banning loot box mechanics in games dunno how many of those examples you bring would be available for the long run. Personally I think this kind of thing is very bad: games should be games and as soon as you tie money into the mechanics then it becomes very addictive or just incentivise unhealthy behaviours. Quote
