I just loaned my headset to a friend of mine. Nah I don't know anyone personally who has a headset. A few of my friends talk about buying one but none of us have pulled the trigger yet. 5 hours ago, blackdog said: wait what? Did you buy an index without realising or you then realised you can’t play it? No I didn't buy an index but I'm of the current thinking that if I do buy a headset, it will be an index and if that ends up being the case, I will have spent $30 on Alyx for nothing. Not the end of the world. Quote

I'm in a similar position - I really want to get in on it, but I'm pretty sensitive to motion sickness & I don't know anyone with a headset to try it out 1 hour ago, Bunglo said: No I didn't buy an index but I'm of the current thinking that if I do buy a headset, it will be an index and if that ends up being the case, I will have spent $30 on Alyx for nothing. You'll probably get the option to receive it as a gift code though, so if any of your friends does end up buying a not-index it doesn't have to go to waste Quote

Not the end of the world. How about buying together and sharing? I remember HP(?) had released a basically rebranded Index but slightly cheaper… worth a look. Quote
FMPONE Posted December 1, 2021 Report Posted December 1, 2021 the index is expensive but worth it if you want to really see what VR is all about Quote

Zarsky Posted December 12, 2021 Report Posted December 12, 2021 If you wait long enough, you’ll be able to buy an even better headset from Valve or one of the other top VR brands. There’s a lot of rumors going around right now regarding nextgen lenses and micro oled displays. Quote

Bunglo Posted December 13, 2021 Report Posted December 13, 2021 My friends and I were talking about headsets again last night, I don't think we'll be buying one any time soon. I'm not anyways. It's all still early hardware but I'm hoping for prices to be less than $1k for a top of the line kit. Or maybe the jump from spending $500 on a kit to spending $1k+ will be for enthusiasts or whatever. I also have the same hesitancy for buying headsets as I do with consoles. There's usually only one or two games that I want to play on the entire system. Aside from my Switch that I recently bought, the last console I played was a ps3 and by that time, the ps4 had been out for awhile. The reason? I showed my dad a gameplayer trailer of The Last of Us and him being a huge Walking Dead fan at the time, went out and bought a ps3 so we could play it. blackdog, -HP- and Zarsky 3 Quote

Lovely story When younger I used to play with my dad, like one would be controlling the movement the other shoot in Doom/Wolfenstein… we played a bunch of Quake as well but it was super hard with the full 3D (we didn’t know there was mouse support). HL1 was the last thing we tried and it was just impossible. We played a lil bit 1v1 the Halo Wars mod but it was too easy for me, so parted ways, gaming speaking. ~ VR deffo seems to be more limited than a console in terms of choice. There’s a ton of games but the feeling is that they are mostly filler content. I’d be happy to rent to play the couple odd games. Bunglo 1 Quote
Bunglo Posted December 16, 2021 Report Posted December 16, 2021 Definitely agree about the filler content. It be great if you could rent an entire kit out for a set period of time. Like how renting games used to be a thing back in the day. Quote
