dmu Posted June 7, 2019 Report Posted June 7, 2019 Quixel mad this really weird add in which they recreate Dust 2. The result is quite graphically impressive, but would definitely not work to well in a competitive level. Nevertheless, it's impressive work. What confuses me is why the guy remade the map using scanned screenshots, would have been way easier to just decompile the map and use something like hammuer to get a reference mesh. text_fish Posted June 7, 2019 Report Posted June 7, 2019 Love the look of it, and the various workflows (trim sheets! ) make me very jealous. If Valve ever shift CS:GO over to Source 2 I hope they add even a handful of these sorts of features to the SDK. I'm guessing the scanned screenshots thing was mainly to do with showing off photogrametry, although to be honest Valve's underlying brushwork is generally so sloppy he probably would have wanted to replace it either way to start with a clean, organised canvas. blackdog 1 Quote

Interfearance Posted June 8, 2019 Report Posted June 8, 2019 (edited) @text_fish I mean they already remade Dota 2 in source 2 without changing the tools at all. Although I have seen that there is a widget in the 3d views so that's an improvement . I think the most desirable change would be having it so that intersecting props/brushes do not causing compile errors and ugly glitches. Edited June 8, 2019 by Interfearance Quote
blackdog Posted June 10, 2019 Report Posted June 10, 2019 Haven’t watched the video, just a few secs for the result… like I said on the main CS topic deffo wouldn’t work with the current competitive expectation, it wouldn’t be as readable, but it’s sure exciting as hell. I’d like to play that very much. It might be possible to modify/update models to make them stand out so not to slow the gameplay to a cover-shooter style. This is very interesting to reflect how hard it is/will be for Valve to push the game forward, they will need to update the graphics to try gain new players. Quote
