MJ Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 d3 engine never looked better. check out this great demo http://media.pc.ign.com/media/008/008926/vids_1.html Quote
PhilipK Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 Awesome stuff! I just love those pathways that makes it able to walk vertically and upside down Quote
Thrik Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 God, that looks great. I particularly like the usage of portals and gravity adjustment type stuff. Funnily enough, one of the only other games I've seen that in recently is Psychonauts, of all games. But man, looks great. I've always admired 3D Realms, and their ability to create fairly fresh and exciting games in a generally monotonous genre. The visuals also look bloody great, and they've clearly stretched the D3 engine a lot if that is indeed what they're using. Quote
sensee Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 I thought Pray would be just another Doom3... But it looks very very cool indeed! Quote

It's developed by Human Head studios. 3drealms just owns the IP and slaps their name on the box, sort of like what they did with Max Payne. Quote
JAL Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 That normalmapped slimewall looks tasty. This game actually looks promising Quote
Zacker Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 We have a Prey thread already: http://mapcore.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2580 3drealms just owns the IP and slaps their name on the box, sort of like what they did with Max Payne. 3drealsm assisted with quality assurance for MP2, that is why their name is one the box. -Stratesiz- Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 Whatever "quality assurance" means. To me it just sounds like a forced attempt to market the brand. Quote
insta Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 Whatever "quality assurance" means. To me it just sounds like a forced attempt to market the brand. I guess Remedy just sent over a pre-release copy so that 3dr could playtest it for a day or two, BAM, "quality assurance" Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 In this case, though, Prey is actually 3DR's franchise, just given to another developer. Not the American McGee syndrome of "Oh, what's this? I'll buy distributing rights and tack my name on the front!*" Very similar to RTCW with Gray Matter/id and our work on Quake4. I wouldn't be surprised if some other major developers start following this model at some point. It's a pretty solid way to ensure franchise longevity while still being able to do your own thing internally. Always sucks for the dev team doing it, though, since most people assume the franchise owner developed it. *Scrapland Quote
Thrik Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 Well, whatever the case, all I know is that these games with 3DR slapped on the box have a hilarious habit of being great. ;D!!1 Quote
RD Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 i knew it would rock. And all of u said it would suck  Quote
