I've been using that tool since the very beginning. I can't imagine what modeling would be like without it hahah!

I've always been a little astonished because apparently everyone uses this software (3dsmax) that cost 2k bucks every year.

Well, there is this students version, but you may not make money with your stuff then (CS:GO Operations etc.).

Am I the only idiot that uses Blender, which is for free and far good enough to make shitty low poly props for CS:GO?

What's up with that?

Well, I just use the student version of 3DS Max like you mentioned. It's free for 3 years after all! Then you can just make a new email and use it again!

Which is great since I've only got 0.31 cents to my name. I don't see how I stay alive 😂

Nope, I use Blender and I know several other people who do too. There are literally dozens of us

Makes me smile :)

@Radix Obviously you are not an idiot for using Blender. Many wonderful and talented people do. That being said, I am very passionate about making life for Source fun, exciting, robust and powerful inside 3ds Max. Just go scroll through the WW Changelog to see how serious I've been at that for 10 years! (Note the bottom of the page that links to previous version archives... those demonstrate the kind of commitment WW users have been enjoying. Except for a period of several months in 2019 where I was fighting cancer, I have updated WW tools many times every week for many years.)

For those that are wanting help with your crunch using WW, feel free to ask for help on the WW Discord channel. I love seeing all the cool ideas people have come to life! :)

There are now six days left to enter this Contest.

Some friendly tips:

-Upload an early version today to avoid missing the deadline.
-You can edit your entry this time around. Be warned: once the deadline passes, judges won’t be asked to overlook problems you may introduce by updating. Double or triple check your updates, run them by your friends to be sure.

Have a great final week of preparation!

I'm a complete noob when it comes to timezones, but if I calculate this right, it means people in the region of Brussels/Paris actually have until 6am in the morning on the 2nd of February, right? I just want to make 100% sure this calculation right here makes sense: https://www.worldtimebuddy.com/?qm=1&lid=5,2800866,2643743&h=5&date=2020-2-1&sln=23-24

EU people can pull an all nighter and get work done, yup

If people spent less time on this forum and more time on trial and error there would be no crunch lol

You say that as if this forum has 200+ posts a day and most of them are people complaining they have to crunch. In reality mapcore gets pretty dead late into competitions since everyone is doing testing on their entrant and not posting other projects.

So, there will be another 1.5 years right? Real shame I missed this one, but I just can't help but hate my own LD work right now, and no one wants an environment artist who can't make custom models+textures good. :C

Important: Please public the ratings this year. Only this ways the contest can be taken seriously.

According to the main post you rate the maps, so there should be no problem to share the ratings with us.

To determine 10 Finalist maps, Mapcore Judges will rate Contest maps according to the following 100 point criteria, with any ties broken by our Guest Experts:

25 points: Fun Factor (how well-designed is the map)

25 points: Originality + Relevance to the "Exotic Places" Theme (Exotic meaning it's normal definition as well as "locations seen infrequently in CS:GO")

25 points: Visual Presentation (how aesthetically pleasing and sophisticated is the map)

25 points: Overall Polish (bug-free maps; maps with Soundscapes; maps which run smoothly; other determinations relating to quality)

Finalist mappers will then have one month to make changes based on community feedback.

The most important about making the ratings public is to receive feedback as participant and to assure the judges work serious with caution.

I took part at the Mapcore's CS:GO Mapping Contest 2017. It was also said the judges will judged like this. But no ratings were made public. It was told we can have feedback afterwards. I wrote every four judges after the contest has finished and I only received answers from two of them. One said they don't have made ratings for every map.

This is what he wrote: "In our judging process we narrowed the levels down to 10 contestants , I'm afraid we don't have a numeric rating for all levels (around 100 in total)." And then he gave me two sentences of feedback.

'RZL  made videos for me and everyone who wanted feedback. Very good! He also said he didn't gave ratings to all maps. Maps that were far from finished and had a quite a way to go to be considered close to finished.

My map was not 100% done, too unfinished for the judges, thats why I received no ratings. So if you do the same this time, tell us beforehand. I truly understand that you don't give ratings for unfinished maps with no chance to get into the top 10. In this case rate it with "too unfinished". But still make all the ratings public. This has to be done if you want to have a serious contest. Thank you! :)

Edit: Oh and if you decide to give maps no points who are "too far" away from finished. I made my last map cs_wetland within 11 days and I only worked on 9  of it. And it has quality. Ok it uses fog and is "just" like ~80% of a map without fog. But I still worked really fast because I was focused. And I started my new map I am currently working on at the  9th of this month and I will be finished with until the end of this month. If you see the end result you will be amazed how much I made within this three weeks and one day.

So be careful with your decisions.

I think they want to avoid people being able to say "my map is better then that map" Hence why they dont release the ratings. Though I to found it hard to get feedback from the judges last time. out of the 4, 2 responded to me, one with in depth feedback and the other with a few sentences. Another Read my message and never responded at all while the final one got around to sending me pretty in depth feedback when his schedule cleared up. While obviously it would be more work, a small document showing how your map scored according to each judge and some feed-back would be nice (maybe a pros and cons section), you could request it for your own map and choose to share it with others if you want.

I've been having problems with loading screen in workshop maps, it doesn't load overview/background, i tested in 2 PCs. Oficial maps and operation maps works fine. Is that a bug? If so, the judges will be alerted?

Yes, it's a bug. The loading screen/overview thing is broken for years. Before it was just broken for former Operation maps but now it's all Workshop maps, so equality for all I guess. 🤔
