It's sooo good. Getting pretty far through and I feel like I'm slowly mastering the combat. MAJOR spoilers below, please do not read if you haven't played much of the game.

Spoiler

Just defeated Guardian Ape... Man what a fucking cool and memorable boss. Never seen a game do anything like that before.. You behead him with a katana that was buried in its neck, and he fucking picks his head up and starts fighting with that and the Katana, and his fighting style completely changes.. Wtf? That's badass. He starts moving like some kind of worm/snake.. I just found him again in a deep cave somewhere, and he's leaning up against a cliff, letting water pour down into his open neck hole where his head used to be.... WTF?! THIS GAME IS AWESOME.

Is this easy to pick up like a Batman Arkham game?

I never played these kind of games (like ninja gaiden) cos they were always so focused on those mad combos in the style of fighting games, which don’t appeal to me.

(or even Prince of Persia Warrior Within had combos but much simpler)

I played a lot of it since it came out, and fell in love with it!

I'm actually surprised we're not talking about it more! It has great mechanics, art, and is also a masterclass for level design so I highly suggest you guys play it, at least for research.

Yeah It's definitely closer to a fighting game now... It's the kind of game you have to dedicate time and patience to, and then it pays off with a great feeling of accomplishment. You learn and become good at the game, instead of the character leveling up or something.

So many games were tough as nails back in the day, and this game is in that same kind of vein, but it's still very fair. If you played any tough retro games, it'll be very approachable for you.

TLDR, if you played any DMC/Castlevania/Contra/Ninja Gaiden before you'll be fine

Reason I'm not talking about it much is because I'm too busy yelling at my fucking TV, lmao.

Man, game is hard, BUT when you finally kill that motherfucker that you've been struggling with like mad, there's this rush of endorphins that makes it all worth it, you feel so proud in yourself.

Loving everything about this game, even though I'm still about 3 hours in. Love how the combat feels like a dance, you really need to respect the rhythm of the game and dance with it, if you miss a step you're punished for it.
Really reminds of a blend of Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden and the old Shinobi game for the megadrive combined all in one. Fuck yeah this is a Video game with capital V ! :D

I love how you start progressing in the game and shit just starts getting really fantastical and creative,.

I'm not too far into it but really loving it so far :) I love how there's none of the bullshit plaguing games these days (microtransactions, endless grinding, bullshit trailers, silly character "upgrades" etc...). It's just a really good game that requires skill, dedication and time, like all the good things in life :)

Is it worth it for a relative newcomer to the souls series? I've finished Dark Souls 3 and plan to get DS1 on sale. What I love most is the boss fights by far, as well as the art and stories of the universe. I've heard the fighting style is very different in Sekiro though.

I've never played any Souls games (although I've played Bloodborne for a few hours) and I'm enjoying Sekiro a lot!

Yeah it's honestly not too much like Dark Souls.. It seems to be much more boss/mini-boss oriented. Obviously DS/BB had big boss fights, but nowhere near the amount and density that Sekiro has. It's really good fun. I think the combat is better tbh, it's more about parrying than dodging/blocking.

well that's basically all I played dark souls for lol, the (mini-)bosses. Best part for me. Will pick it up on sale

If you can, pick this up now! FromSoftware is one of the few studios out there making video games with no bullshit smeared all over it, it's worth supporting this kind of creations man! :)
