Nothing to do with Epic, or does it, but Ubisoft will also be supporting Blender:

"Not only will Ubisoft help funding online support for Blender developers, Ubisoft Animation Studio – a department of Ubisoft Film and Television – will also use Blender for their productions and assign developers to contribute to Blender’s open source projects."

This is amazing! Didn't want to spam this thread with this, but I'm really excited for the support Blender is getting. There's also rumors of some more announcements at Siggraph in a week. :P

Should there maybe be a Blender thread here too? I'd imagine there's many mappers here using blender.

Fuck yeah Blender! I wish I had time to transition now, but I deffo see a future where I fully adopt Blender into my workflow.

I'd like to learn to love blender. Whenever I try, the polygon tools just doesn't seem to work for me. I'm too used to think how I would do things 3dsMax style. I get frustrated and quit and return to using max :ubermad:

Have you given Blender 2.8 a proper look? They've revamped the UI and added industry standard keymap with left click select + many sweet improvements like PBR-viewport etc.

RC2 just landed and the final release should drop this week if no showstoppers arise.

Valve is hitting back, with a new clause in their contract that would make devs to choose between releasing on Steam, and other storefronts if they want, or be out of steam for good.

Seems like a smart move, I guess they are counting on the non-sustainability of the Epic model.

Video has offset to the meat.

Surprised they didn’t pay more for Subnautica. They got a bargain.

Paying $1,000,000 for “Mutant Year Zero”? Wtf

The rest seems reasonable.

Think Mutant was one of the first exclusives? ?

11mil might sound like a lot of ruppies for you and me, but that's a drop in the bucket for a big corpo. Gotta hand it to Epic, they're playing the long game to win.

When I saw that I thought “only?”, I was expecting that costed them much more.
Anyway gotta spend money to make money. And they have loads thanks to Fortnite… when you make up to $400 mil in a month, you paid for the free games for years ahead!

It will be interesting to find out more about their publishing initiative, haven’t heard anything after Remedy signed on.

Honestly they would "win" more by investing more in the actual software and maybe a little less on the free games. One of the reasons Steam is the go to for consumers, its largely due to features.

    • [CS:GO] Shore
One of the projects I worked on after I made de_austria.

Yeah, I know the timing is really bad (CS2!), but can't change it... 🙁

In general a lot went wrong during this project. Had a lot of problems with the layout, but I think I found a good compromise in the end. Also learned many new things. Maybe I would even be ready to create a really good map now after all, but I think that it's gonna be the final one. I really like making maps, but it has become too time consuming over the years for just being a hobby. Unfortunately I never managed to get a job in the games industry. So that's it. I hope it's a worthy ending of 20 years of making maps for me. 🙂

Shore is a bomb defusal map for CS:GO that takes place on Lofoten Islands, Norway. (Also have a Hostage version of this that works well imo)

I took some inspiration from this place in Norway:
