Taylor Swift Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 In the fact! 2 gig of ram is taking you to a level beyond man. wow Quote
MrH2o Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 exuse my newbish question but what does RAM does for good in games ? faster loading times ? more physics handling ? And I also wanna know what that comp sounds like ? must be like an jetplane Quote
OL Posted May 27, 2005 Author Report Posted May 27, 2005 with the watercoolers it wont be that loud, a low hum like my current computer. ram helps a little with everything i think. the game can load more of itself into the ram, which is much faster than reading it from the hard drive. Quote
mike-0 Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 My computer is in this really thin shelf so cooling is hard, i think if i got another 6800 id take it out. I'll probably get another for unreal3. Quote
DanielAragon Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 i wonder when a 6800 or an x800 are gonna be included with crappy pc's...like compaqs, or dells. crappy as in run of the mills, and vid cards like that just come with the system...i know its not much, but i love my 9800 pro Quote
Zacker Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 exuse my newbish question but what does RAM does for good in games ? faster loading times ? more physics handling ? And I also wanna know what that comp sounds like ? must be like an jetplane The fps difference between having 1024 instead of 512 mb in CS:Source is 0. As long as the game don't utilize more than e.g. 512 mb of ram, then it don't matter. If however it does and you only have 512 mb of ram, then it will begin using the swap file on the hdd instead. The hdd is 10-100 times slower than memory, so that results in an fps drop. It is about the same with loading times. If it has to load stuff into the swap file instead of the ram then the load time is increased. Quote
