exuse my newbish question but what does RAM does for good in games ? faster loading times ? more physics handling ? And I also wanna know what that comp sounds like ? must be like an jetplane

with the watercoolers it wont be that loud, a low hum like my current computer. ram helps a little with everything i think. the game can load more of itself into the ram, which is much faster than reading it from the hard drive.

i wonder when a 6800 or an x800 are gonna be included with crappy

pc's...like compaqs, or dells. crappy as in run of the mills, and

vid cards like that just come with the system...i know its not much,

but i love my 9800 pro :)

The fps difference between having 1024 instead of 512 mb in CS:Source is 0. As long as the game don't utilize more than e.g. 512 mb of ram, then it don't matter. If however it does and you only have 512 mb of ram, then it will begin using the swap file on the hdd instead. The hdd is 10-100 times slower than memory, so that results in an fps drop.

It is about the same with loading times. If it has to load stuff into the swap file instead of the ram then the load time is increased.

ok im posting from the new computer now... had a shitload of problems (of course) so i worked about 11 hours straight plus another 5 the next day to get things working. it feels really fast in windows, installed XP in like 10 minutes. games will come after i update all the drivers etc]
