This and more information can be found on the website

The Map Mosaic is a project that will stitch 10 areas made by 10 mappers into one map. Once you sign up you will be able to download the template of the area you choose. Once you have the template, follow some simple rules and create your area at your own speed.

You are free to make your area follow any theme, any style, any thing you want. So when all the areas come together it will be one wild trip.

There are almost 20 members so far, you can find a list here. I know your thinking now, "but you said there are 10 areas... yet 20 members" well I had to figure out a way to work with the inevitable problem of people joining then dropping out, so I have a rolling admission and plans for multiple maps. If you sign up for area5 then find out that some one else is already don't with area5 you wont be forced to drop all your work, you will be placed in line for the second or third or fourth mosaic map. As long as there are members working on the areas of the mosaic I will be able to release mosaic maps.

I hope I have sparked an interest, I'd like to see more experienced mappers join along side some of the newer members. I want the mosaic to be fun, but also a good tool for new members of the mapping community.

Also notice that the majority of the team consists of 12-15 year olds.......and one 20 year old. Maybe why it looks like shit, no experience at all on that team.

I don't know about that, CampaignJunkie is a very good mapper, and he's contributing,

I think part of its charm is that its open to everybody - bringing newcomers and experienced people together in one project encourages those who have been at it longer to help and teach those who haven't. I'm working on an area, as are CJ, RabidMonkey, Agent Smith, and Trapt, and none of us are exactly new to level design. Its an opportunity to go wild and work on a small area, yet still have it contribute to a level that will eventually be released.

Think about it, if you guys contribute nice areas, then there are more nice mosaics that will come out of it :) I don't see how this project is anything but beneficial to the community to be honest, and I applaud DrGlass for handling it so professionally. You shouldn't really look at the member page as a team - this isn't a mod project or anything after all. You contribute an area that goes into the mosaic.

Reno hit the nail on the head.

To be honest, it takes much less to get a "newbie" mapper to join the project then it would to get a "guru" to join. Also, the "crap" maps were rush jobs, the mappers were excited and didn't put as much craftsmanship as they should or could have. These kids want to be part of something and I dont think I have the right to turn them away.

In fact, to quote one of the mappers. "If they feel like it, they should jump in and show us how its done." I cant agree more. After the beta release we were able to point out what was wrong and right with each persons maps and they are learning and growing.

I hope that more talented people dont pass this off because it gives all mappers equal opportunity, that would be a shame.

I figured that if you guys saw some content it would spark more of an intrest than if I had just presented you with an idea.

Well, i dont want to jump in and show them how its done because i dont want my name on it. Thats why i cant beleive CJ did it. Not that im a good mapper or anything, i just dont think im horrible.

What the fuck is that pillar in "habboi"'s map?

LOL, thats exactly what we thought a few people might say :D If you are only willing to have your work put beside that of experienced mappers, and if you need to be associated with only experienced mappers in order to keep up some sort of "reputation", perhaps this project isn't for you.

Does a weed next to a rose make the rose any less beautiful?

I don't want to pressure you, I'm not here to beg for help, I just don't want people turning this down for of the wrong reasons. Its not a matter of who your working with, its the community working together.

I hope this shallow attitude isn't shared by everyone here at mapcore :(

Please dont take this the wrong way, I have alot of respect for this site and the people here and dont mean this as any kind of attack.

Seems like an interresting project. I am however worried about the amount of textures. The memory requirements will be high if every mapper use different textures.

People, people! There's more than enough Campaignjunkie to go around! One at a time please, and no pushing! :-D

LOL:D

Ive seen this idea a couple of times before the last few years but i dont think ive evr seen a finished result=)

Itd be intresting to play these maps as a mapper tho, seeing crap parts combined with good ones, id probably enjoy the nubcubes most.

As for Mike-o..... if ur afraid to put ur name on it, then dont put ur name on it. If u dont understand why CJ or Reno do it, well just try remember why u ever started mapping

Bad maps dont ruin ur reputation becuz nobody will play them anyway :-D

I believe a mappers bad maps can be valuable though, as they show some of the progress he made throughout time. They also show the interests of the mapper, e.g. style, preferred theme's and all.

Also, when I run through my old maps again, I really get back some good memories sometimes. It's like a sort of diary.

So, that's why I keep about a GB or two of them on my HD... :P

The idea of a mapping mosaic sounds interesting. I've seen people trying to create a map together, and I'm currently giving it a try with some fellow Dutchies as well, but the idea to release several mosaic maps in a row sounds fun. School only has 4 weeks left to throw at me, so count me in.

/me doesnt like >_<

I think that its not a good idea to make maps with hell big group! I have tried, and it wasnt even fun to map like that.. And when you add 10 rooms witch are made by different mappers, it cant be good..
