Shadow of props propper is bad

Recommended Posts

Hello, i have shadow problem with propper props, I use commands -staticproppolys -textureshadows -staticproplighting -both -final -game for VRAD.

I compiled on Counter Stike Source with HAVOK's Custom Map Compilers.

Help me...

If that entire building is a mesh then for CS Source this is fairly normal. Models are so poorly lit so should only be used for the smaller details while any large structural things like buildings should be brushes

If you want more precise lighting on models you need to cut the long cylinders along their length with multiple edge loops. This is why it’s a better idea to use a 3D editor than propper.

If you really want to use propper, trying to do stacks of cylinders instead of one long tall cylinder, and separate modes instead of one big model. It might not work well, I dunno. Worth a try.

VRAD is not powerful enough for big models?

It's not a matter of it being powerful enough, it's just that static props aren't lightmapped. Their lighting is done per vertices. If you want better lighting you need to either add more vertices, or convert your buildings into brushes.
