Minos Posted May 13, 2005 Report Posted May 13, 2005 Yeah that looks great. But Im with mazzle on this. They should create their own soldiers instead of just using marines in every fucking game ;( Quote
kleinluka Posted May 13, 2005 Author Report Posted May 13, 2005 Yeah seriously. I mean Half-Life and Half-Life 2 had zombies and marines in them. And boy those games sucked royal ass didnt they? Quote
ReNo Posted May 13, 2005 Report Posted May 13, 2005 Insta, you're thinking of Peter Molyneux (spelling?), but to be honest those aren't the sort of games I had in mind. Admittedly he has come up with some impressive gameplay ideas in the past, but generally not ones up my alley. I tend to prefer Japanese games, and despite this, Xbox is my console of choice I don't really mean strange or experimental gameplay either, just games with less standard visuals and presentation. JSR/JSRF both look amazing and have awesome soundtracks, Otogi has incredible flashy effects and beautiful sound effects, Wind Waker took cel-shading to a whole new level, Okami is styled after Japanese drawings, Auto Modellista kinda sucked but was for once a driving game that didn't strive to look real, etc... I like a bit of style I guess. Give me something stylish Quote
Mazy Posted May 13, 2005 Report Posted May 13, 2005 Im not really attacking the game or epic, they know what they're doing and they're good at it, and why the hell go with something less certain at this point. All im saying is that theres just so many of these kind of generic scifi games these days, only difference is that this one looks awesome. Quote
Zacker Posted May 13, 2005 Report Posted May 13, 2005 Looks cool enough to me. Space marines vs. monsters might not be original, but I care more about the actual gameplay. Quote
Thrik Posted May 13, 2005 Report Posted May 13, 2005 It would be nice if they had something more creative than marines, I agree. I mean why not come up with some kind of unique human organisation that you actually care about, rather than just some generic "they are human marines, therefore we naturally must like them" scenario? Exercise the whole story-telling muscles and introduce some kind of human/alien conflict which consists of more than "the aliens want to kill all of the humans". There's far more to "humans vs. aliens" than that, and it should be explored. Regardless of that, the video does look awesome. I can see good things coming from this engine in the future. Quote

Who knows. Quote
rockdude86 Posted May 13, 2005 Report Posted May 13, 2005 looks damn awesome but theres on thing im concerned about the xbox360 is due to come out in november and this should be a launch title well i dont hope that they will rush it because of that.... Quote
Mazy Posted May 13, 2005 Report Posted May 13, 2005 indeed it is very early to make any assumptions based on a 10sec movie and a couple of pics. Also its the first (although there isnt much so far) stuff from a 360 project that has actually impressed me. All the other stuff they have teased with so far could easily be current gen games. Gonna be interesting to see something useful from E3 muh Quote
Thrik Posted May 13, 2005 Report Posted May 13, 2005 I wasn't really making assumptions myself, just responding to what others have said in this thread. I'm just expressing what I feel they should really try to do with this game, whether they have or not. This obviously has huge potential, and it'd be a dying shame if they reduced it to a generic aliens vs humans storyline, with nothing more than "kill them before they kill you" holding it all together. Go Epic! And all that. Quote
Captain P Posted May 13, 2005 Report Posted May 13, 2005 That surely looks impressive, yes. As for the marine versus alien type, it's indeed used a lot these days, but so is the WWII theme. I don't think that necessarily stands in the way for a good game experience. Well, we'll see. The graphics look promising, that's all I can tell right now. Quote
D3adlode Posted May 14, 2005 Report Posted May 14, 2005 Epic: making good engines and boring games since 1998.. We'll see how this goes.. Quote
