Radu Posted September 12, 2018 Report Posted September 12, 2018 (edited) About the Game Developed by true shooter veterans in Croteam, Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass reignites the classic series by improving on the old-school formula. Enjoy the high-adrenaline action combat with an unbelievably destructive arsenal and experience Sam's iconic enemy-annihilating circle-strafing and backpedaling dance-routine on an even bigger scale. Steam link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/257420/Serious_Sam_4_Planet_Badass/ Features CLOSE QUARTERS AND MASSIVE BATTLEFIELDS - Serious Sam has always been about crazy action in both huge open spaces and more streamlined arenas. This time it's no different. However, alongside those smaller arenas, for the first time in series history Serious Sam 4 debuts individual massive 128 x 128 km levels. LEGION SYSTEM - EPIC HORDES OF ENEMIES - Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass debuts brand new enemy hordes scaled to match its terrain size. Fight through thousands upon thousands of relentless foes, both those that defined the franchise like Kamikaze and Kleer and those ready to become iconic in the future. WITH A TWIST OF THE WRIST - To help you cover more ground easily, Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass features a set of cool and fun vehicles. Get your driving skills ready and jump on a motorcycle, a combine harvester or even a bulletproof popemobile and drive your way through unfortunate enemy pedestrians. CLASSIC SAM IS BACK - Despite the huge terrains and vast open spaces, Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass is NOT an open world game. Fans will once again get to enjoy that circle-strafing, backpedaling, linear action gameplay they have come to love but on brutally bigger scale. WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM A FRIEND - Companions no longer appear only in cut-scenes, but are taking part in the action. Rodriguez, Jones, Hellfire and the rest of the crew are joining Sam in this epic journey through Planet Badass. However, Sam is still very much a one-man-army hero you met all those years ago. Even when Serious Sam 3: BFE came out, it wasn't exactly the best looking game, but it had that HD series feel to it. I think it's something they're going for, similar to how you would know when a game is running on Source, if that makes sense? Quote
blackdog Posted September 14, 2018 Report Posted September 14, 2018 I don’t mind the environment, but weapon modelling and animation feels very WIP, I hope they make that stuff better Quote

I believe no firm confirmation yet, but all previous games came with a powerful editor (yet not user friendly)...so I think this one won't be any different. I'll be down to try it and maybe make a small campaign out of it. 7 minutes ago, Radu said: My nipples are like pencil erasers Quote
will2k Posted May 21, 2020 Report Posted May 21, 2020 Serious Sam 4 threatens to put 100,000 enemies on your screen at once, it will be big. Couple this with a kickass heavy metal soundtrack, and I'm fully ready for this. @blackdog 1st video @ 0:35, I spot Castel Sant'Angelo . Looks like one of the maps takes place in Roma Klems and blackdog 1 1 Quote
Radu Posted May 21, 2020 Author Report Posted May 21, 2020 Think this entire thing takes place in Italy by the looks of it, culminating on mount vesuvius. Quote
dux Posted May 21, 2020 Report Posted May 21, 2020 It looks like a reskin of the old one with a few more dudes on screen? Quote

Yeah, very happy to see they decided to use Italy as a location... although I wish the graphics were more detailed. I never played any SS and because I sometimes feel the need of a mindless shooter, I was keeping my ear on the ground for this, but not so sure now that I've seen these videos. I never finished Painkiller (I had a pirated copy that would crash) and I was tempted to install it since I bought it on some Steam sale (speaking of which, I'm surprised they haven't thought to remaster/remake Painkiller really) Edited May 21, 2020 by blackdog Quote

Yeah, it does look pretty much like Serious Sam 3 with the assets from The Talos Principle, which is what probably happened. I think that's part of the reason as to why they're able to supposedly have hundreds of thousands of AI on screen. And also why the launch price is 34 euros. But, honestly, I don't mind if it looks a bit dated as long as it offers some fun and insane moments; at this point that's the kind of look I associate with the Serious Sam franchise - HD super sharp retexture of old assets. Squad Posted May 22, 2020 Report Posted May 22, 2020 I had some of the best local coop fun with Serious Sam 3. It's not exactly the kind of franchise you play for its visuals, so I pretty much couldn't care less in this case. I do wonder what's new gameplay-wise, except that there'll be a gazillion of enemies. will2k 1 Quote

I remember at the time of the first (or maybe second) it was praised for the graphics (quake and clones were all brown, this was detailed and colourful) Quote
