[Wingman] Station

Recommended Posts

Just a Wingman project I work on for fun on the side.聽

The map is set on a train station in the midle of a large city.

There are two routes, one is going down straight to the bombsite and the other one goes up trough the train facing the CT window.聽

CT can decide to defend way back or push the T's from upper mostly.

T's can do a quick rush trough main or take a detour trough upper and split into the ladder/squeeky or peek from the CT window onto the back of site. And for the real cowboys in here, you can jump from upper straight down, but that will deal some large damage and the sound will betray your move聽馃榿

Love train stations, love Underpass, so have tried to come up with a layout for similar scenario as well.

Is the train moving? Don鈥檛 see it in the radar.

Looking forward to see more stuff and curious how it plays.

Ask @FMPONE聽for a run around in his weekly stream?

The train is static and I like to keep it that way 馃榿

I played it with some friends a couple of times and we had alot of fun. If anyone is down I would love to play some matches with you guys and recieve some feedback. One suggestion is to open up the second train door aswell, but need some more testing.

Ah FMPONE is streaming? That would be awesome! What day/time is this and does he record the streams?

I walked around the map and it really seems to be great fun.

The big pillar is well placed and the height variations are very very interesting! I definitely want to test this map in a 2v2 scenario!

The layout is 10/10. Also couldn't find a spot where i didn't take damage from the bomb lmao.聽

Thanks mate!
Yeah the only downside of this compact two layer design is the fact the bomb always cause damage and it's easy to hear footsteps.

Hey Roald, use the聽info_map_parameter entity in Hammer to change the radius of the bomb's damage. By default, it should be set to 500, so adjust that to your desirable amount.聽馃槈

Thanks mate! Will defenitly implent this entity!

I checked it ingame. It looks really well made. I like it so far.

Can't say much about how it plays. I just worked too much this week to make my thoughts about that but it looks interesting and fun to play. :D

Alright, I did some testing with the new detail sprites and found out how more specifically how they work. @Mamorex聽was on the right track but there's a few key things you left out.聽

Removing $alphatest from the material or adding $translucent

First, the detail sprites material - it's 2 detail sprite sheets side by side, so version A and version B. The different versions have to have same sprite positions and sizes. You only specify version A coordinates in the .vbsp.

Next up, the detail sprites masks. Red and blue are for wind offset -- so聽you can have different parts of the sprites sway in the wind differently, you can see Valve isolated some blades of grass for this effect. The green channel is a tint mask and controls how much the sprites are affected by the $worldspacetint.聽

That brings us to the world space textures. They seem to automatically get resized to fit the whole map area, so it you resize the map you'd have to resize the textures too.

The world space tint texture is pretty self explanatory, controls what color to tint the grass, 127 grey means no tint.聽

The world space masks texture uses the red channel to select which version of the sprites to use -- 0 is version A and anything more is version B.聽

The green channel of the texture controls the sprite size -- 127 is default, with darker making the sprites smaller and brighter making the sprites larger. The vmt command $minimumspritesize聽controls the cutoff point for the sprites, so the sprites smaller than the specified value don't get rendered which can act聽as a placement mask.聽

I don't know what the blue channel of this texture does, changing it had no effect on the sprites for me.聽

All this means sprites still get placed by vbsp on map compile, so they still use displacement alpha for the placement, but the new masks can manipulate sprites size and color after map compile.
