[CS:GO] Chalice (Wingman)

Recommended Posts

The outside area looks amazing and the layout looks interesting in the overview. I'll give it a try later today!

I feel like the indoor area does not really fit the rest of the scenes, especially the clean texture on both the ceiling and the columns. And the plant pots from berth do not fit well in my opinion.

Keep the good work coming! Excited to try this one out :)

Thanks! The interior could definitely use some polish overall, I’ve been hesistant to create new assets for the map due to the short production time frame, but I’ll consider some things :)

So I had the right feeling on twitter :)

looks great and would love to be able to try it with real people, real matchmaking.

I find interesting the simple layout, but wonder if is actually too simple, as seems like you get a line on enemies right away in the open, CT knows right away where T come from?

anyway, just like Scepter this looks top! 8)

There are three ways from which T can come from, you could try and hold two of them with an awp or scout, but it’s a huge gamble, especially with the windows T can use to throw nades through. CT’s should try and be dynamic and use utility to cover everything. Wish I knew of a server that run Wingmans, but community servers are rare these days :(

No, but is clearly a successful game mode, I’m expecting/hoping that in the next Operation they will pimp 3-5 community Wingman maps. I definitely saw a good 5 that could easily sit in an Operation, and I’m no Workshop browser. (Obvs most I’ve seen are from our community :D)

Then hopefully they’ll spruce up the Wingman rotation with community maps like it is now for casual rotation ;)

Hey Grapen, I noticed you didn't include a kv file with Chalice, so it just defaults to a single seal team 6 and phoenix model. Im not sure if you had one made and forgot to include it or if you forgot to make it.

Yeah I forgot to pack it, thanks for the heads up!

Alright, I did some testing with the new detail sprites and found out how more specifically how they work. @Mamorex was on the right track but there's a few key things you left out.

Removing $alphatest from the material or adding $translucent

First, the detail sprites material - it's 2 detail sprite sheets side by side, so version A and version B. The different versions have to have same sprite positions and sizes. You only specify version A coordinates in the .vbsp.

Next up, the detail sprites masks. Red and blue are for wind offset -- so you can have different parts of the sprites sway in the wind differently, you can see Valve isolated some blades of grass for this effect. The green channel is a tint mask and controls how much the sprites are affected by the $worldspacetint.

That brings us to the world space textures. They seem to automatically get resized to fit the whole map area, so it you resize the map you'd have to resize the textures too.

The world space tint texture is pretty self explanatory, controls what color to tint the grass, 127 grey means no tint.

The world space masks texture uses the red channel to select which version of the sprites to use -- 0 is version A and anything more is version B.

The green channel of the texture controls the sprite size -- 127 is default, with darker making the sprites smaller and brighter making the sprites larger. The vmt command $minimumspritesize controls the cutoff point for the sprites, so the sprites smaller than the specified value don't get rendered which can act as a placement mask.

I don't know what the blue channel of this texture does, changing it had no effect on the sprites for me.

All this means sprites still get placed by vbsp on map compile, so they still use displacement alpha for the placement, but the new masks can manipulate sprites size and color after map compile.
