FrieChamp Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 Not impressed. Their GDC video was good, great shaders, particle effects and art. Also some interesting physic plays, but those outdoor shots dunno Quote
von*ferret Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 The president of epic was just speaking during an informal question and answer session during my lunch and he was really interesting. I'm actualy looking at him right now, he's intimidating but very cool. He had a fun sarcastic approach at things. He was a good speaker and fun to listen too even after I had no sleep listeraly all night before I came to this conference. He spoke wonders about the engine and had the shit to back it up. Quote

Id=1846930 <--- awesome Yeah, that's a great shot, though the rocks up close look pretty bad. But compare it to this one: http://www.1up.com/do/slideshow?pager.o ... Id=3140086 (the same structure, different angle) and suddenly it looks terrible. :-\ Quote

slicky Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 but i want to play morrowing out there not ut2k4 D: yea same, i still prefer the graphics for oblivion, even if the poly counts arent quite on the UT par, thats not everything. i think the art direction is better and i also think UT suffers a bit from the doom3 shiny play-doh looking characters. lookit here http://www.elderscrolls.com/art/obliv_screenshots_01.htm Quote

Marcos Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I agree with mike, slicky and Blaz. Oblivion dosn't look like most new engines. But damn thoose new shots are hot!! Quote
TomWithTheWeather Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I personally can't wait to play Oblivion, being a big Morrowind fan and all. My only gripe with the art I've seen so far is the cheesy monster design, but Morrowind's monsters weren't much to look at either. A far as comparing Oblivion's outdoor shots with the UE3 outdoor shots, it's more of a comparison of art than tech. You could make a rich and highly detailed forest in either engine, which I can't wait to explore. So far, Oblivion seems to be going for a deciduous forest look whereas UE3/GoW/Unreal has just shown open plains. Quote
mike-0 Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I really dont like the outsides, and i really dont care to play them. I dont own UT04, but from the videos ive seen, the outdoors just looks like a game of tribes, which im not a fan of. The indoors are great though - i had the first UT game, and loved it. Quote

But we are not talking about UT2k4. The UE3 outdoor shots look nothing like UT2k4's outdoor areas, aside from the fact that there is.. um.. terrain. Besides, at this point in time, we don't know if the outdoor screenshots are for UT2k7 or that "Gears of War" game. I've seen the same outdoor area being used to demo content for both games. Quote
