DaanO Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Same for me, and the University of Twente in Holland. Except, i'll be in the crew teaching Level Design and i'm writing the manual as well . Oh and they appreciated what i did last year because i'm getting paid more Quote
-Stratesiz- Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Wtf~ People are actually getting paid to teach level design? Oh my~ Quote
DaanO Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 250 euro's a week (and they're paying for my food, cinema, bowling and all, i also get to play beach volleybal an hour a day or so so i don't have to sit behind a computer all day) and i'm writing the manual for 10 euro's an hour or ssomething like that. i'm going 2 weeks. oh and i don't have to pay tax. mike-0 Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 there needs to be one of these in virginia Quote
Zacker Posted June 27, 2005 Author Report Posted June 27, 2005 Sounds great Dann0! Getting paid for doing level design stuff is really a dream for me. One of the guys at Aalborg University also suggested that I should be the one teaching level design there:) Quote
ReNo Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 What sort of experience level are people going into the camp expected to have? Two weeks seems like a hugely short amount of time for a group of strangers to learn how to develop the component parts of a game and put together anything of significance. Great job for you Daan, no doubt, but I am kinda sceptical about the worth of the course for the people paying to go on it. Quote
DaanO Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 It's 1 week per group. 1 week to learn people the basics AND make a Half-Life mod. And to learn those nerds to do some sports and eat healthy at the same time. It's quite the week. We did this last year and 2 fun games got out of it. Very noobish of course but most of it worked. All games have some custom weapons, custom player models, some level, sometimes a custom skybox, the menu is changed and 1 cool new coded feature. Some custom textures. All custom levels. Some cool stuff Oh and the experience level: Total beginner. Sometimes some experience, often with another engine. Edit: Oh and the course is totally worth it i'm sure. It's just a nice week of vacation and at the end of the week those people actually learned something. Photoshop, Hammer, c++, gmax. It's a good start to get into game design. Quote
Nazul Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 omg i wanna go there and teach whadda ya mean with write the manual :/ ?? Quote
DaanO Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Nazul you should take the course instead of teaching ~ Peris: No, not yet. HL1 is ideal because it's easy, there's lots of resources Quote
Nysuatro Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Respect daano. Nice work you are doing there Quote
Nazul Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Nazul you should take the course instead of teaching ~ edit : muuh , the 2 guys i knew that went there didn't know as much as me ( and that was 1 year ago ) when they came back .. BUT that was in the week that you weren't there so mox wasn't doing his job Fine by me if i'd take the course I can learn from Teh Mastahzz  Quote
