Crackerjack Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 look, sorry to be so negative, but i just hate when mods try to be good by being a different game. Having been on some mods... and having the first release... Its really hard. Cause for the next week or two you get complaints about everything... and then everyone hates it. So you release a little patch that changes some code issues, sounds, animations but nothing that needs to be tested heavily... and you do this to try to keep your fans entertained.. then you release a heavily contented/tested patch that will fix most if not all the complaints that were given. And that takes alot of time. And the two hardest things about this process is: 1: keeping people motivated to do make really quality...especially after being bombared by complaints and 2: Organizing a good play test... and by good playtest i mean like 15 people in one server... sometimes its hard to get at least 4 people in for a play test time So you got to give these guys credit for releasing something works and taking the time to make it better for everyone. Though their theme needs a lot of work, I say keep it up to the PoA guys Quote
Zacker Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 It shines through that you got a bunch of mod experience CJ, as thoose points are highly recognizeable! Quote
-Stratesiz- Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Well times have changed. Back in the days when the first beta for CS was released, competition was minimal compared to what it is now. People were inexperienced, everything new was cool and innovative. It didn't take much effort to get a custom cs map get played online on a full server. Today, it's next to impossible. As people gained experience the overall quality was pushed forward, giving birth to such mods as NS. The world today, however, is different. The number of mods being worked on is tenfold. The HL1 engine was taken to the max and since source has pretty much the same tools, the average mod quality standard is by far higher and so it the tolerance level. People are more demanding and critical thanks to increased competition. First impressions play a much higher role now. A first release must offer more for it to succeed. Quote

RD Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Ive played POA. Its kinda the same thing as counterstrike IMO, except not as good and more difficult to control Quote
-Stratesiz- Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Ugh... It looks and feels more like HL1 than source. Did they actually remove the physics? The objects don't even break. Quote
JynxDaddy Posted May 3, 2005 Author Report Posted May 3, 2005 the default map doesnt have the cubemaps built, you gotta download the fix from the forums. (might be able to just build them yourself I dunno) Quote
Spellbinder Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 I have tried a lot of mods, just because its fun, and i think ppl miss out if they are to conservative and just play HL and CS and the "BIG" mods and games. I agree to the fullest what Strat says, and thats why it is importent with guys like JynxDaddy that push for different mods. The least we as a game dev community could do is to test it for a while. And i don't mean that evryone HAVE to try EVERYTHING all the time. The last thing we need is ppl with negative attitude towards new stuff. Fact based critism how ever is another story, i bet thats allways welcome. I would surely try it out if i was able to, but im on my friends comp and dont want to install a lot of stuff on it. And last, i always wants screenshots! Its not the same wieving on sites where the pics are manipulated. Give give give jynx. Spellbinder. Quote
JesusFu Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 It's groovy. It loses flavor after a little bit, but 1 map, what do you expect. that maps level design, to me, is very original. You can choose from 5 objectives and team work is not as optional as rambo-esque counter-strike, you'll find more often then not, everyone works as a cohesive unit. I wish them the best of luck and was impressed with what they had to offer. Oh, CS started out shitty on Beta 1 too. Quote
Spellbinder Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 Just don't say anything bad about cs_desert or i'll kill you. Spellbinder. Quote
