Yep, on Steam, too. I wouldn't hold it against players who bought it on day 1 to be salty about a 50% discount one month after launch.

Seems like the game did not sell very well and that they are trying to drive sales. That's probably why they made a demo available as well. A lot of the mixed reviews come from the overall buggy experience some player had 2, so making a demo available to know whether you can run it properly or not helps. (I personally wouldn't have bought it otherwise since I didn't want to get stuck at a measly 30fps). It can help driving the sales of the older games as well. So it probably made sense for them to do it despite pissing off people.

It's been a while since I finished it, but man this game just leaves me with mixed feelings. As much as I loved the story, characters and moments (one of my favorite games from a narrative perspective in a loooong time), I almost equally disliked the actual gameplay. Really sad since I really liked the gameplay of the first Machinehead Wolfenstein.

It's generally way too hard to play as a shooter, borderline broken (at least on anything above the very easiest difficulty), providing basically no feedback that you're getting hit, unless you keep your eyes fixed on your health bar at all times. I'm as tired of the generic red bloodvein borders illustrating that the player is hurt, but man I missed something as stupid like that when playing this game.

On the other hand then it's also just not tight enough as an actual stealth game, and honestly most encounters feel like they're designed for stealth up until a certain point, where they want you to start playing more aggressively. The first game found a much better balance in my opinion, functioning primarily like an excellent shooter where stealth was a fun way to mix things up, but not actually required. Here stealth seems strongly encouraged, but without making it a better stealth game in the process. It's a damn shame.

Anyway, with all that said I still recommend the game, the story and the places this thing goes to is simply that good. And yeah, the first couple of hours are the worst gameplay wise, but it does get somewhat better (and so does the story).

Pretty much agree. Its a good game, starts badly (so did dishonoured 2 and titanfall 2) but gets better. Never reaches the level of the original though, not really sure why they changed a bunch of stuff. Like having different weapons. Was a strange choice, they literally didn't need to change that at all.

Yeah i was also disappointed overall, beyond what others said, it feels like there is a chunk of the game missing (before the actual ending)

Looks like Bethesda heading to EA train...

I haven't played it yet,  but this video popped up on my home and wanted to ask what you guys think, you had trouble playing the game, do you think this is an accurate portrayal of problend in the game? When this person was talking about light in the layer part of the video,  pointing out the alley section, I was thinking "well you don't look at the light source, but what the spotlight is illuminating" but then the actual alley to take is truly dark. Unless there was an effort in pushing players to explore and find collectibles...

I hope I'm not offending any level designer that worked on W2 here on Mapcore, so I apologize for being snarky and I haven't seen the video posted above yet, but I have to say that W2 has some of the worst level design i've seen a SP FPS for a plethora of reasons like bad player navigation, pure linearity with no real navigational choice, zero to no exploration, the whole thing feels like just a wasted opportunity, specially since W1's level design was a bit on the claustrophoic side but it tries to do the best with it.

The whole game is basically corridor area followed by a larger gameplay area with a bunch of bullet sponge enemies, rinse repeat! :(

The room with the planet model - holy shit.

Thanks guys, I've read some earlier comments on this topic but they weren't as focused on LD, so I was curious to hear professionals' take on the video.

I am playing The New Order, actually, I played most of it and enjoyed it a lot... right until the bridge level*, so I was surprised to see such hard feedback on the sequel.

*dunno what happened when I got to the bridge level in W1: I felt my interest in playing had vanished. I am pinning it on a pacing that changed completely, as you go from high octane action to mostly navigation and platforming. And the weirdest thing, I felt sort of spaced out, as if all the movement on oblique planes was annoying me. Never had this sort of problem before, anyway, that made me abandon the game for weeks, then I finally pushed through and progressed but haven't finished it yet.

I kinda want to see it with my own eyes, from the video it seems there might be grates showing the crawlspace connecting the two spots... but yes it's an atrocious solution that has no logic.

Also the crawling into pipes with the upgrades... I dunno it looks the pipe is too small for a person to crawl :?
