Mapcore Introductions Thread

Hello, I'm Simon and I have been mapping since last Easter, though I have never finished a project! I feel a little left out of what's going on in this scene so this is probably the best place to start.

I'm looking to get into the game dev industry at some point, but in the meantime I'm struggling through my A-Levels (while making maps / learning to code on the side) with a hope to study computer science at a decent university and work my way up from there. Pretty much all of my maps are either unfinished layout-wise, unfinished detailing-wise, or their radars are broken. My most recent project, aim_ravine, should be the first map that I finish fully to the best of my ability (it's for a steam group competition many of you may know about).

This seems like an awesome community and I hope to get on well with you all!

Heyo Mapcore.

This is my first post since I started lurking mapcore a few months ago.
My name is Marc and I live in Denmark - On the interwebs I go by the name Fnuggi or simply Fnugz.

I have a great passion for video games and my favorite game has always been counter-strike; ever since I played it the first time back sometime in 2002/2003.
I started playing around with hammer in 2008 making silly maps for CS:S.
Even though I feel like I have great understanding for hammer, I have never really finished nor released a serious map.

I also enjoy playing matchmaking and the competitive aspect of the game. I'm in the eagle ranks (no braggin') and have a lot of game-knowledge, which hopefully can be used creating maps.
My hopes by joining in this awesome community is to learn something and get to know all you cool people C: (and finishing and releasing a map for CS:GO!)

Cheers - Fnuggi

That's awesome Fnug, it sounds like you're in the perfect position to make a real try at a CS map. Goodluck with that and welcome

Hi Everybody

My name is Ivano and I'm the lead programmer of Soloweb N.V. studios

I'm lucky enough to do this job from the caribbean island of Curacao where our company is based.

I found this community just recently and I'm looking forward to be active in it.

At the moment I'm working on our new title called Aero's Quest, an ambitious (for my standards) platform/puzzle game in co-operation with Raveneyestudios that we are hoping to present to the Pax South 2015.

Thanks to everybody for the hospitality

ivano

Hello Mapcore :-)

My name is Jacob (in-game Vaffe) Im 20 years old and from Denmark.

I joined yesterday hoping to find what I need to improve my skills in Hammer.

Like Fnugz, my story is somewhat the same. Been playing around in hammer for CS:S for a long and and went over to CS:GO Hammer when i got the beta back then.

I wanted to make a thread for a level iam currently working on, as iam trying to make a serious 5v5 competitive level for CS:GO, but it seems im too new to do that? :-)

Anyways, if you would like to check it out and possible give me feedback and maybe a little insight in on how to further detail it.

(Heres the link to my workshop: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=315746987)

Thanks for taking time to read my post, and I hope you guys are willing enough to help a "newbie" out ;-).

Hi everyone!

My name is Hugues Barlet! I'm 21 years old and I'm a french student from Supinfogame (formerly at ICAN for my game design bachelor)
After a level design lesson by Furyo in my school today and a discussion with my classmate TheOnlyDoubleF, I decided to join you guys! In fact, I'm passionate by level design obviously, and I would like to learn with other level designer and share our knowlegdes! I worked one year for a french indie studio as a LD for a steam game named Mechanic Escape. Now, in parallel of my school, I'm working on a game in coproduction between Darjeeling Production and One Life Remains, always as a LD.

I'm working on my former student game called Kawiteros which had some prices and nomination as the Unity Awards 2014.

I made maps especially with Sketchup
(by the way, is it possible to share SketchUp work here?) , and included game level editor (Forge, FarCry 3, Super Meat Boy, ShootMania etc). But I would like to train my self with UE4! I really want to be active on this forum. Hope to be able to share you my future work and make feedbacks to other works overhere!

Finally, i wrote 2 LD articles on Gamasutra :)

Thanks you for reading and taking time for my presentation! :D

You can show whatever you want. And if it's not gamedev related there's always (Extreme) Off-Topic :D

    • [CS:GO] Shore
One of the projects I worked on after I made de_austria.

Yeah, I know the timing is really bad (CS2!), but can't change it... 🙁

In general a lot went wrong during this project. Had a lot of problems with the layout, but I think I found a good compromise in the end. Also learned many new things. Maybe I would even be ready to create a really good map now after all, but I think that it's gonna be the final one. I really like making maps, but it has become too time consuming over the years for just being a hobby. Unfortunately I never managed to get a job in the games industry. So that's it. I hope it's a worthy ending of 20 years of making maps for me. 🙂

Shore is a bomb defusal map for CS:GO that takes place on Lofoten Islands, Norway. (Also have a Hostage version of this that works well imo)
