Vilham
I hate hazards that do DOT's in FPS games, basically if you fuck up at all it penalizes you in the future where you can't predict what is coming. I prefer death pits to poison pits. Vaya, poLemin and Jetsetlemming
blackdog
Sorry @Vilham, DOT is acronym for…?
Sprony
Damage over Time @blackdog @[HP], look at Quake man. That game had great environmental hazards. Especially later SP levels by the mod community. Just look at Sock his maps. Quake has traps, death pits, spikes, arrows, crushing ceilings, collapsing walkways and what not. I miss that in modern games.
blackdog
Understand, thanks @Sprony. What's an example of that? I can only think of the poisonous headcrabs in HL2... which I think were a great implementation amping up the risks a player takes. Otherwise I dunno, something like a cold area that slowly damages the player, poisonous gases... seem to fit the description. I would define them uninspiring but I don't see the penalisation factor... cos with current game designs, games tend to give player a way to replenish their health before the next encounter (cos game are too easy today etc etc).
