Kosmo Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 Well, the first bits of information has started to drip, and honestly, I have mixed feelings, I never tought it to be "the best shooter ever" the media touts it to be, and actually I have never met anyone who tought so either. It was a great game, very cinematic, but I have played way better games, and first thing that bothered me, was the overall graphical style, the character models were tad too cartoony to me, and obviously they are continuing the theme set by their lead artist. But looking at this screenshot I can't help but think, the tank and the toons here don't go together so well, actually, they look too much out of place to give that unified and gritty look and feel, so it goes too much to novelty for me and I'm not one bit interested about this game right about now. And why everything has to be so shiny? Are tanks so shiny? I have done photography so long that I can see when something is out of place and that lighting just doesn't cut it, it is just sad. But enough of my pointless rant, I just wanted to publish my meaningless opinions, I'll be playing WoW anyway so what do I care Quote
insta Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 Call of Duty and the expansion pack United Offensive was alot of fun, but I hope they concentrate more on AI in this sequel, instead of boosting difficulty by sending several hundred enemies at the player. The enemy count per map in the expansion pack was especially insane, you would get to an area and germans would be swarming in and you basically sat there shooting them one by one until you could advance to the next area. Let's hope COD2 plays as good as it looks, and like you said, hopefully they tone down the shininess of the models. Quote
TomWithTheWeather Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 What's up with that guys elbow? Quote
Pericolos0 Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 well i sure hope they fix the lighting. So many crappy errors with that in this screen. It also misses some nice soft shading which is essential to make stuff look realistic. i like the smoke Quote
Fletch Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 What's up with that guys elbow? It's the new melee weapon. Crack some skulls with your deformed elbow. Quote
Tequila Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 What's up with the game engine in general? Looks fake as fuck - everything is composed of papier mache. Quote
von*ferret Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 I can't imagine a war machine being so shiny, there is a reason tanks are painted with matte paint. So they do not reflect light. Quote

Zacker Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 Ground texture and smoke is nice, but there are a lot of errors in the picture. The lighting could use some more -bounce. Quote
The Postman Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 I can't imagine a war machine being so shiny, there is a reason tanks are painted with matte paint. So they do not reflect light. Doom 3 engine. I'm suprised anything's matte at all. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 Isnt it normal that lighting in realtime looks fake on current hardware? You shouldnt flame the lighting. Its a step forward compared to older engines + it are outdoor levels. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 i think its a great step forward, but it need to be somewhat a mix of 2 technologies. The old lightmap method so some nice soft shading can be built in, and realtime sharp shading like this. Unreal3 uses a combination of both too. Quote
ginsengavenger Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 i enjoyed the first one immensely, and i know they're putting a lot into a strong multiplayer experience in this one as well. i can't wait honestly. Quote
