TheOnlyDoubleF Posted December 30, 2016 Report Posted December 30, 2016 (edited) 2016 was, well good in the way it looks but I didn't felt that good: - While we are very proud of our game, Ultraflow 2 was a huge commercial fail even if we received great critics - I finally finished school at 23 - My final year project was an intense development but we faced awesome challenges and I learnt a lot about UE4 and open world creation (for both design and technical matters). Plus, the prototype has grown an incredible anthousiasm from Youtubers making it visible to millions of players. - I got contact by people from the industry for opportunites which, enven if they did not get to an end, made me more confident about finding a job. - I got my first real contract in the game industry - I shipped a big game - Unfortunately, the game we shipped doesn't encounter the success it deserves neither :/ - I haven't feel very proficient since August and I haven't start anything serious as personal project. So for 2017: - I want to start a serious personnal project with a small scope... - 'Cause I want to finish it. I have game ideas, map concepts for UT I have to achieve. - I want to learn how to code in C++ and C#. Even if I know I won't be the best, I want to be able to read more code than I can now, in both of these languages to strengthen my profile. - Get a new position for which i'll feel useful. Getting experience on a pro PC/console game would be a huge plus for my profile. - Make more money. (May be with short freelance work I could do on my spare time) - I want to travel. I need to see new things, learn more, feel something new. - I also would like to start a Youtube channel dedicated to very high quality video about level design or game design theory. Like lessons you'd give to a classroom. Edited December 30, 2016 by TheOnlyDoubleF Deathy, hgn, Sprony and 5 others 8 Quote
Deathy Posted December 31, 2016 Report Posted December 31, 2016 Lots of very inspiring stuff, thanks for the read. For me personally: - manage my time and keep my mood up - finish at least one map that has been lying around for too long (incl. textures/models) - start coding in C# again (perhaps a small game project) - dedicate less time watching streams and more into my university study - travel, and hike through more forests/mountains - take pictures with my camera RaVaGe, Sprony, hgn and 3 others 6 Quote

hgn Posted June 30, 2017 Report Posted June 30, 2017 Well, its now the 182nd day of the year, which means... exactly half our time is up And from my list I can cross off: - Build a good portfolio - Finish GCSE's - Start making a small game (after cs:go maps done :P) So how well is everyone else holding up? Thanks for the anxiety Actually been thinking this kind of thing recently. Fixed the dates for my long leave from work, 7 weeks agreed. Now this is so late in the game that I'm not excited anymore at the perspective of going away, just worried if I will be able to afford it and most importantly if in a month I can organise a proper trip to Canada. The CS mapping contest is providing distraction as well, as I'm trying to come up with a map for it. Edited July 3, 2017 by blackdog hgn 1 Quote

PogoP Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 At xmas this year I really wanted to leave my job at Creative Assembly and go back to freelancing so I could move closer to family and friends. I was probably the most fed up I've ever been in my life to be honest, and couldn't give a shit about the game I was working on (Halo Wars 2). However, I can happily say that I've been back with Unknown Worlds freelancing for 2 months or so now and I'm having a great time, and I'm moving house this Saturday. Finally moving back to the West Midlands where the rent is half what it is down here near Brighton, and I can finally start the life I've wanted for ages but felt I couldn't have because there were no jobs in the area I wanted to move to. Really content right now. dux, Beck, Vorontsov and 11 others 14 Quote
