Hello everyone.

I bought this game yesterday and completed it today.
I didn't buy it before since it was xbox exclusive and after that I didn't own a game controller.
However, I thought the game was a blast, a real gem. I can not see why this game got so much flak!
It is beautiful even compared to todays standards, it has an impressive flow in gameplay, game mechanics are great and intuitive, (for example the testudo mechanic), level design is great and voice acting and animations are on point,
Playing this game with the Quick Time Events was not as boring as I first thought it would be. It felt really great and I got a cinematic feel to every combat situation.
I loved this game and altough the story was "generic", I really enjoyed all of it.

Is it only me that enjoyed this game or what are your opinions on it?

Changed "Masterpiece" to a less prestigous word.

@blackdog I am not "trolling" at all.

Masterpiece in regards of its genre of course. It isn't even close to, for example Half-life 2. But to say it's tossed around easily is an exaggeration. I wonder what you think @dux would be considered a masterpiece then, since your standards seems to differ so heavily against mine.

There are many masterpieces such as

System Shock 2
Deus Ex
Half-Life
Dragon Age Origins
Mass Effect
Thief the dark project

But for this genre? I think it's classed as Action Adventure, so: God of War, Uncharted, Zelda. Those fall under the big M word for me.

Interesting!

I don't feel you on Thief, Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Perhaps the old thief but Half-Life, nothing beats it!

Zelda I've never really touched so I cannot say for sure.

What do you like/dislike about Ryse specifically?

Thief invented first person stealth and is by a legendary studio and design team. Mass Effect was an incredible experience along with it's sequel. Dragon Age also fell into the same vein.

Ryse. It's basic. It's linear to the point where you might as well be a train on rails. There's no depth. There's no anything. It's just graphics. There are guys here who worked on it, I'm not bashing them before anyone thinks that. The art side is fantastic - no one ever denied that. But the "game" part is not even present.

I've tried hard, gone to a shrink and even spent a year trying to invent a time machine to remove any remnant of a memory for working on this game (ok it was only 3 months but still), I even gave away my free xbone and project signed disc, even tried to get my name removed from the credits (didn't really deserve it anyway) but the producer noticed I was missing and added me,  I'm not even kidding :D It's everything I hate about a "game" like this. Rome was a good idea though, but that's about where it ends. Wish I could go into details, but there where a lot of talented people put in very stupid situations.

I'm very interested in this game because I'm sucker for anything Rome, is there an easy mode where you can just skip all the gameplay and enjoy the trip?

Holy shit dude, that was some enriched, weapons-grade loathing right there! :D

What do you mean by ""game" like this"? I'm not too familiar with this game as you might suspect...

A game that puts it's primary focus on graphics and technology, full of QTE moments and button bashing that requires little intelligence, cinematics that chew out more man hours than the actual gameplay and sub par storytelling even when it is the focus. The designers couldn't even move a crate or vase because the artists where so empowered lol. ;) (I'm not even blaming them) This has actually confirmed the obvious to me, not that I needed convincing but it can work as a useful warning to other developers who put together new teams and have to set priorities :P

You could feel this coming with Crysis 2 and its QTE's that got slipped in.

Yep, but to be fair, with the Crysis games we never set out with a mission statement for failure, and in 3 we removed QTE's due to feedback from 2.
