Let's feel old and depressed.

Deus Ex came out 16 years ago.
Half-Life came out 18 years ago this month.
Thief came out 18 years ago today.
System Shock 2 came out 17 years ago.

A lot of us used to be 16+ on here talking shit and mapping for everything Half-Life/Quake and now we are all 28/29+ with industry jobs or something. I'm off to feel very old and upset at where all this time has gone.

But it was 2000 like yesterday...

Sigh as fuck :(

I'm the age of Jesus and adding one in January :( it's time to take some decisions and take some bold steps…

wonder if I can still even get into game dev other than working for myself and coming out with a finished walking simulator by the age of retirement.

if you had told me 10 years ago we'd still be doing this I'd have said you're fucking insane. But it wouldn't have sounded too bad, either

I turned 33 on the same day that Quake turned 20 this year. I did a speed run of the first episode to celebrate. :elrey:

Ageing's great really, especially online. The older you get the more often you get to say things like "I WAS RUSHING B BEFORE YOU WERE BORN SONNY!" and "I was geek BEFORE it was chic!".

Yeah, you know man to me there's something about making environments that touches me in a level my conscious still can't fully comprehend. Just the process of it all is so rewarding that when you're doing it hours do quite fucking literally blend into minutes in your mind, and having stumbled with the concept of flow for myself before even knowing about what it is, was life changing.

That's why 10 years ago, i wouldn't know what to tell you but for damn sure would have wanted to still be creating cool worlds.

The word immersion gets thrown around a lot in our circles but i guess that's actually really just it, creating immerse world's is one hell of a powerful thing to do. 500 years ago painters were honing the skills of even for a brief second or two take you to another world, by using a still image, nowadays we're doing the real deal. So i don't know what the fuck will happen in 10 years but i hope shit stays this exciting cos it sure feels we're just flipping the first page really.
